According to ESB. What do you think of his career overall? I think underwhelming is the best description. Had great skills and big power but seemed like he was more focus on money. Still can't forgive him for blatantly sidestepping the Loma fight. But I guess he got paid a good amount for the Spence fight. Mikey Garcia retired from the sport
Underwhelming is the best word really. Other people have mentioned it here but he never seemed to really love the sport, he was just good at it. It's a shame as he did have talent and skill.
Disappointing career. He had the talent of a top 5 P4P fighter, but not the desire. Resume was very thin. People will always speculate how Loma vs Mikey would have gone, both at peaks. I think Mikey could have beaten Loma, but no one will remember that. Loma will be in the HOF one day. Mikey will never come close. That's all people will remember.
Beyond that, I wish him well. He's a good dude, and I'm happy that he retired with all his faculties.
I think Mikey loves the sport itself. He's knowledgeable about boxing history, and he's always at fights. I don't think he liked the politics and training aspect of the sport, which is different.
Danny had better wins by far. I still remember good Ole Terp once saying that Mikey Garcia would beat a prime Tszyu
He never really enjoyed being in the sport. Which is a shame, because at his best, he was a very good fighter and had a style which was really nice on the eye.
I knew his career was over the second he signed for Spence. That let me know right then and there that he was cashing out. If he was serious about building a legacy, he would have stayed at 140. He'd have had a MUCH better chance of beating Prograis and Taylor than beating Spence.
As much as Ellie annoys me the guy has given boxing fans some really good interviews of boxers namely the García family. When I watched his interviews You kind of feel like a fly on the wall. Everything is more natural, unrehearsed. I hate to sound like a broken récord but Mikey García is the laziest boxer ive ever seen. Every time Ellie came in the gym he was playing touch butt with Rainbow or sitting around telling mother goose stories about Fernando Vargas and his crazy antics. Just no hunger anymore. Well i take That back he had hunger for carne asada burritos.
I miss the good old days back when Brandon Rios was in there telling stories about Victor Ortiz getting his ass kicked in street fights. Speaking of those days, what happened to Freddie Roach. I remember seeing some weird video of him saying a bunch of racist shit in a gym. Then I haven't seen much of him since. I know he has MS so that may be why.
FREDDIE ROACH IS STILL TRAINING PEOPLE. SURE HE'S SLOWED DOWN QUITE A BIT BECAUSE OF HIS DISEASE BUT HIS MIND IS STILL SHARP AS A TACK. YEAH I DO REMEMBER ROACH GOING OFF ON A RACIST RANT AGAINST THE GARCIA CAMP WHEN PACQUIO FOUGHT RIOS AND IT WAS PRETTY FUNNY AND SAD AT THE SAME TIME. I LOST A LITTLE BIT OF RESPECT FOR FREDDIE. HAVING SAID THAT I DON'T THINK FREDDIE IS A RACIST JUST SAID STUPID SHIT IN THE HEAT OF THE MOMENT. JUST AN OLD SCHOOL TRAINER/FIGHTER. HE TRAINS GSP OUT OF ALL PEOPLE LOL.
Yeah, he made a fool of himself. Was calling the garcia camp fucking mexican iirc. As REED always said the guy pretty much always was a pos
I hate Roach. Am I happy that he has Parkinson's? No. Am I sad about it? Also no. I love rewatching his fight with Haugen. Greg beat the fuck outta him. Long live Haugen. He handed out ass whuppins to three clowns: Roach, Paz, and Mancini.
Exactly, then he was shamelessly fishing for another underserved payday vs Pac in spite of his non effort. Very disappointing career, I was very high on him for a while.
I knew his career was over when he moved up to 147. He was never a true welter. He's a fat 140 pounder. The question is who ranks higher Robert or Mikey García?
Definitely Mikey. Why is this even a question? Mikey was at one point on everyone's top 10 p4p. Robert was nothing more than a solid fighter.
Haugen was a racist himself. He was pretty funny and witty. It's a shame he had to go after people's ethnicity to try to get under their skin.
