I was on another boxing board and some new folks seem to think Canelo could handle some all time greats. So how about matching him with a very good. Tarver could be a bit inconsistent at times. Could Canelo beat the Tarver that lost to B-Hop?
Why pit him against the worst version of Tarver? He was coming off rapid weight loss from when he bulked up for the role in the rocky movie Anyway Tarver whips Alvarez, who would be gunshy vs such a tall, hard hitting southpaw
Because that's really the only version of Tarver that I think he has a realistic shot against. A fresher version of Tarver would be too much of a challenge.
Realistically, a prime Tarver found a way to lose to Glen Johnson. Canelo winning a one off in a fight stacked in his favour wouldn't be that big of a shock.
Kind of what I could see happening too. Tarver obviously has all the tools to win but he was always a counter-puncher who was very selective with his shots. Canelo doesn't exactly have a high workrate either but in rounds where both guys aren't doing much, we all know how they're going to be scored.
