No, Please Keep Talking About Roy...PLEASE... Marks Like YOU Keep His Name Alive...'Preciate It... REED
REED Doesn't Want to Fuck Him Either, but for Whatever Reason You PERSIST in Projecting YOUR GAYNESS Upon the Situation... It's YOU Employee, Not REED... REED
I think Roy is relevant in a John Ruiz thread. Dont really get where all the hostility is coming from .
How Can You NOT "Get" Where the Hostility is Coming From; It's Coming from Haters Like YOU???...YOU'RE 1 of the Primary Sources, Literally... Again, Name JUST ONE Fight Where a Prime Roy Jones was Mauled, Held and Hit in the Clinch Repeatedly???...THEN Ask Yourself HOW Roy was Somehow AIDED By Ref'ing in the Ruiz Fight???... Don't DUCK These Questions the Way Double L's WEAK ASS Does, Either... REED
In retrospect and upon rewatching fights it is clear that the Glen Johnson tactic of bullying Roy would never have been effective even near his prime. I don't think Ruiz beats him more than 1/10. Sure Nady enforced the rules a little too heavily, but I don't think that did much. That fight was never in doubt. The only guys who gave him trouble made him lead and were rangier than he was, forcing him to jab which he was not super comfortable doing. Harding and Tarver had the right blueprint.
you're forgetting that unlike glen johnson, and every other fighter rjj ever faced, ruiz was a heavyweight. mauling and imposing his size was always going to be the way he'd win. so by zealously breaking the fighters and stopping the action every time ruiz got close, the ref took away any chance ruiz might have had to win.
You NEVER Cease to Amaze REED… You LITERALLY Said Roy Wouldn’t DARE Step in the Ring w/Ruiz, Prior to the Fight…Didn’t Even Believe He’d Go Thru w/the Fight After SIGNING the Fucking Contract… Literally PREDICTED WHOlio Fucking Gonzalez to BEAT Roy Jones… But Instead of Copping to the Perpetual IDIOCY Of Your Roy Jones Opinions, You Flat Out REFUSE to Acknowledge When You’re Proven Wrong, REPEATEDLY, REED Might Add… Worse, You’re THE Most Likely Poster to BITCH & MOAN About Holding, But Here You Are NOW Complaining About a Guy NOT Being Able to Hold???… What Sucks for YOU Is You Loathe Roy Jones, Yet He Continues to EXPOSE Your Hypocrisy… And it Couldn’t Happen to a More DESERVING Poster… REED
Yeah, Double defending Ruiz is the ultimate irony. The most anti-grappler poster on Earth defending... the ultimate grappler. Post-Tua, Ruiz became 110% a hit and hold fighter; the type of fighter Double typically despises. But I guess things change for him when Roy is involved.
there's no contradiction here at all. and i'm not defending ruiz. the fact of the matter is, ruiz, "as-advertised" is a mauling fighter....that's how he managed to "win" fights and it's the threat he posed. but that "threat" was neutralized by the hyper-involved ref. again, not defending ruiz. just pointing out....rjj benefitted significantly from the ref.
Ok my answer is I've never seen it. But then again Ruiz was notorious for effectively applying dirty tactics like clinching and hitting against much bigger and stronger men(Namely Holyfield). This was a different animal for Roy. Giving up that much size and weight. Had things unfolded differently(an honest ref) Ruiz's unconventional tactics and awkwardness could have been a factor in the fight. In conclusion Roy got the win. Thats in the history books... the rest is speculation and cant prove that Ruiz could have beat Roy under more favorable circumstances but one cant help but to wonder.
Exactly… Doub and employee Have NEVER Seen it Either, Yet They State it as an Unequivocal Matter of FACT That Roy ONLY Won Because of Ref’ing… Because They HATE Him, Simple As…. REED
Shut up I like Roy and it's true that it's possible he would still beat him however the fact that they chose to enforce those rules only for Roy definitely gave him home field (hbo) advantage
Just rewatched a few ROUNDS of Jones vs. Ruiz.... Round 2...clinch 1 at 2:05..Ruiz is setting Jones up for a guillotine choke..Nady break it up quick... ONE CLINCH...ONE ...>ONE... Round 3..first clinch at 2:21...neither guy is throwing so Nady breaks 'em up...HELL RUIZ covered up while in the CLINCH...2nd clinch at 1:36 Ruiz backs Jones into the ropes with right hand to the body, then clinch and does NOTHING else so Nady breaks 'em up...3rd clinch Jones backs intothe ropes and they clinch... Round 5 of Jones vs Ruiz....TWO...TWO clinches Round 8.... 4..FOUR CLINCHES...and the ref let them work for 2 of them because RUIZ was landing/throwing body shots... Round 9....first clinch Roy was holding...Ruiz was throwing Nady stayed away. As soon as Ruiz stop throwing he jump in to break 'em.....last 10 seconds of the round Ruiz backs Roy into the ropes they clinch but RUIZ is throwing punches so once again Nady let's it go to the bell... Round 10...clinch Nady breaks it up because Jones was holding and hitting....later on another clinch-Roy backs HIMSELF into-the ropes and Ruiz works the body throwing punches, uppercuts but Jones avoid most stuff...Nady again let them fight it out until they are no longer throwing and just hugging.. 3-4 clinches... SO where the fuck do you FUCKS come off saying RUIZ wasn't allow to use his typical clinch/mauling tactic??? He's clinch numbers were WAYYYY down...and most of teh clinches he was allowed to WORK if he was throwing punches..
It's the Mandela effect. For some reason most people remember Roy getting the special treatment from the ref during that fight. And I also remember Mayweather getting special treatment during the first Castillo fight.
There is a fairly recent clip of Holyfield being interviewed. Asking why he dealt so wel in sparring Tua, and fighting Tyson. He explained it quite simple by saying the type of ‘round’ punches they had a patent on, and make for a huge knock out reel, are the easiest punches for him to catch, by him just putting his gloves up to his temples and bringing his chin to his chest. Which indeed lets you catch them round punches fairly easily, for Holyfield at least. It would of helped poor Ruiz though against Tua. When you hear Holyfield talking about boxing he almost makes it sound so easy and basic. What did you do to always stay in shape Evander? Evander: “Not get out of shape.”
Classic example of how the social media /internet extravaganza made a guy out to be a total bum and no-hoper despite suffering a fate that befell much better more respected guys like Emily Griffith or Clay when Cooper had him on Queer Street or Norton against Shot LeDough. Guy got clipped by a massive banger and got put out. Ruiz at least went on to get a title. Tua didn't.
