Honestly I think it's more the Ferguson factor. That team he won the league with in his final season had absolutely no business being near top spot but won the thing by 10-11 points or something. I think there was this whole thing where it was like "it doesn't matter how shit this guy is elsewhere, when he pulls on that Man Utd shirt, magic will happen". It only ever worked under Ferguson because let's face it he's probably the greatest manager of all time. People thought it was the club and the success would be sustained after he left, but it was really down to him and you just can't replace somebody like that.

Agreed, I can see Rangers getting a result against Ajax too. Hate the cunts but it has to be said they seem to be really adept at getting the results in Europe, some way or some how.

Obviously Real will be heavy favourites against Celtic but I do like the way Celtic are playing (even leaving out the mad scoreline today). They seem to be developing a style and identity which is good. Real are beatable, they went on an absolutely insane run last season which you have to commend but I do think it was just one of those things, if that makes sense. Real Madrid were destined to win that trophy, the gods of fate aligned etc etc. They're obviously very good but they're not that good. Celtic can get a result against them at home on their day, it just depends when it is they play, I haven't properly checked out the fixtures yet.

Ive no idea how we're gonna do in europe because if we're gonna line up with Starfeld and Taylor all the vulnerabilities we had in terms of playing out from the back and lack of recovery pace in transitions basically remain. They even reared a couple of times yesterday & at higher levels when the stress is applied, its the weak link that'll break the whole chain.

But purely in terms of attacking play this best celtic side ive ever seen & if we bypass the high press Id back us to create chances against pretty much anyone. I guess we're a bit like Leeds under Bielsa....we could end up in 6, 7,8 goal thrillers against pretty much any level of side or we could get arse raped and it'll be less down to opposition quality per se as much how the styles blend vs our strengths and weaknesses.

Transfer deadline coming up. Always fun to watch.

I'm hoping Arsenal can land Pedro Neto and a midfielder. Neto is their number one choice and he grew up as an Arsenal fan and wants to join. I love having players that supported the club prior to joining. You can see how excited and happy Zinchenko is to be on the team. He supported Arsenal and didn't hesistate to join. Neto might cost over 50m but I say pay it instead of waiting until next summer. Joining later does nothing to help the team right now. Why buy your second option when your first wants to join?

Instead of paying 50 million for a player they should give me 30 million. When you think about it that's a saving of whole 20!

It's not a man, it's the name of one of Abramovich's yachts. The guy Hut is talking about is somebody who is out of employment.

They were just talking about a new signing in the Prem. I can't remember who it is now but a guy who plays attacking MF now but last season was playing CB.

Nice breakdown. Actually the Fulham game was probably the best example to use. The team was out two starters and was still fluid. The squad is much more versatile and able to cover different positions and formations. All of the goals scored weren't the results of coordinated attacks but there were shots on goal that were. Sometimes football is just a tough game and the keepers won't break and let goals in.

Arsenal usually gets bullied in midfield by any type of size disadvantage but the new tactics and formations have negated that. This also allows the speedy youthful forwards to use movement and skill to score/shoot.

I think Newcastle United Vs Liverpool tomorrow will be a very very good indicator of where both teams are.

It's all been talked about before and nobody here likes this WC for a host of reasons (see what i did there) but even with all the bullshit i'm temporarily enjoying the glut of games. Refreshing to see a spate of meaningful matches as opposed to all these kinda sorta important ones.

Thinking about it, Joelinto at Na'cassle has basically switched from an ineffectual striker to a Casemiro style ball winning number 8 under Howe to surprisingly great effect...always a sign of a good manager when he can spot the potential for a weird change like that.
