After last nights underwhelming finale to Canelo vs GGG 3 what other boxing series that produced some memorable fights ended with a dud?
I think Tyson and Lewis always had a bit of a rivalry. Us Tyson fans always felt had tyson not lost cus, or had he not slacked off in training or gone to prison he would have beat Lewis. I mean Prime for Prime. But by the time the fight was made it was a disappointing mismatch. Mayweather vs Pacquio- waited too long to get this made and it was boring.
Dude im the biggest Rafa Marquez fan. That guy was not as talented as his brother but he was more exciting to watch. His fight Tim Austin was my favorite.
The problem with Tyson and Lewis is that Tyson burst onto the scene as a teenage phenom and peaked really early, he didn't have a style that was built for longevity. Lewis on the other hand was a late bloomer and took a while to reach his prime. A 1996 fight is probably the closest you could get to a 'peak v peak' match up between the two. Either side of that and it becomes a case of prime Tyson beating a green Lewis or a prime Lewis beating an aging Tyson.
That was just awful. I watched the first fight several years ago and it was actually pretty decent. It wasn’t “good”, but definitely better than people might remember. The second was mostly slow and dull although it had a good 11th round when Holyfield got dropped and hurt. The rubber match, however, was absolutely dreadful.
So this is what boggles my mind about boxing. How is it that an all time great struggled so much with such a mediocre fighter like Ruiz. Can't really say it was a fluke because they fought 3x. And another much greater generational talent(Tyson)was not even competative with Holyfield?? That's why mythical P4P matches are worthless nonsense. Nobody can tell you with any certainty how a fight between old time greats and new school fighters would turn out. You can have an opinion about it but don't get mad and act like your opinion is the gospel when people disagree with you. Because until two fighters step in the ring you just never know.
Castillo vs Corrales 2 The first fight had the greatest rd in boxing moment I expected a lot more from the rematch. It was a little anti climatic.
I know he was in the twightlight of his career for sure. But the Holyfield that fought Ruiz the first time wasnt as shot as some of you are making it seem. Just a year prior to the 1st Ruiz fight he had a draw and a split decision loss vs Lennox. Lewis was no joke back then. Not bad for "Old shot to shit" Holyfield aye? Then after the Ruiz rubber match he beat Rahman the same Rahman that knocked out Lewis two fights prior to fighting Holyfield. So you can say he was old but Ruiz still did better than Tyson vs Holyfield even if the Holywarrior was a little long in the tooth but still dangerous.
Exactly. Holy was getting long in the tooth by the time he faced louise, but he was far far from shot
I personally always felt Roy paid off the ref, was on anabolic steroids and paid off Ruiz and Stoney the win HW.
All of his accusations may be true, except the last 1 Norman stone is beyond reproach! Was he paid off to get knocked out and nearly half killed by Alton merkerson before the fight?
