90s dance music between the rounds and shouty wifey Loaded/Lads Mag birds giving it large. A country in decline
Stoppage was excellent and humane. Rawlings immediate attempts to scream about "counted out" were suspiciously eager and shrill.
Joyce is ridiculously slow, he's making old Foreman look like Roy Jones. But he's game and has good timing. It's more than enough in the current hw division though he s getting up in age...
I'd like to think Joyce could have time to make a major run at the combined titles but he's likely to be near 40 by the time he's eligible....the Joshua Vs Fury winner is who he'll want as I think Usyk leads him on a merry dance if they fight.
Ive said it before and ill say it again. Such a shame big baby got caught for roids, cause him vs joyce would have been a banger
would joyce gobble up all time great puncher wilders best shots like he does everyone else? parker landed many clean low blows and joyce never so much as acknowledged them whatsover nor did they discourage him from pressing the fight.
Lovely shot to finish Parker off. Only managed to catch some highlights. Will try and watch it in full later on. Wish I had put a few quid on the stoppage win now.
Parker's not a puncher. He's a strong man with a decent pair of hands. Couldn't put away a totally shot to shit Chisorah, never dropped or bothered Ruiz, (who was dropped and bothered by utter nonentity Arreola) and couldn't dent Whyte who's got two 1 shot KO losses on his ledger. I'm a Joyce guy, but Parker isn't a chin-checker. Wilder, if he lands, will check it good . Then we'll be sure.
I'd like to see Joyce in with Wilder but we're not going to see that any time soon of course as Wilder has nothing to bring to the table. Too big a risk, little reward right now.
Exactly this..... Joyce has three names on his record and suddenly he's in a position to pick n mix. I'm a Joyce guy but there's an obvious and sudden uptick in the "bigger and better things" about him.... I dont think a 16-0 record with your 3 biggest names being DuBois, Jennings and Parker should automatically get you a title fight. Ruiz and Wilder are there, if he fancies it.
You're a Willfully BLINDED Mouse, Refusing to See the INTERESTING Heavyweight Forest for the KLIT Trees... REED
No....Joyce is being rushed into a title fight because it's culturally and financially enriching to the British scene. He's as ready today as he'll ever be but that's hardly the issue. It's not a David Reid rushjob, like his eye might fall off, it's about maximising a profit opportunity and a bit of jingoism, too. He went 12 (and was hurt by) with Jennings, who is Klitschko's last win also....that's how ancient that is. Ironically....He was very very Wlad (Vs Wach, Vs Chambers, Vs Chagaev) where he kind of had a dead man in front of him for 8 rounds and didn't really kick on until the guy was practically falling down. It's a curious ,maybe, maybe even interesting division. But it's not fucking "terrific"- which is what they said it was. I will go along with your proposition- that's it's interesting. It's not "terrific"- that was their term and I dismiss that term. I am in a Joyce guy, again, his old man is Irish ,he's from 1 mile from where I live, I wish him the best, I love his seemingly limitless capacity for discomfort, but this is not terrific , not at all.
REED Never Said it Was "Terrific", But YOU Were Derisive and Dismissive Of the "Interesting" Label, as Recent as the Ruiz-Ortiz Fight...Even Now, You're Only Willing to State the Division is "Maybe" Interesting ... Not Only is the Fury/Usyk/Wilder/Joshua ERA Heavyweight Division a Certifiably MARKETABLE Commodity, it's Also Producing More ENTERTAINING Matchups Than Heavyweight Has in QUITE Some Time... Undeniably, REED Might Add... REED
I'm conceding the "interesting" point. I've admitted to that, openly....even then I'd say it's got three interesting fights in it rather than an entire divisions worth. Fury Vs Joshua Usyk Vs Joyce (Joyce's preference) Ruiz Vs Wilder (neither man has a better. option) When you break it down like that, sure a few interesting fights. When you critically examine each fighter, you've got two really good boxers. Again, I was after the British TV people for their phrase "terrific division" ..
"Terrific" Certainly DOESN'T Apply to Current Day Heavyweight and Only the 70's and 90's Era's APPROACH That Adjective, from Recent Memory... Juxtaposing Your List, You Don't Find the Following Bouts Interesting??? Fury vs Joyce Usyk vs Wilder or Ruiz Joshua vs Wilder or Joyce Wilder vs Joyce or Ruiz To Be FAIR, REED Intentionally Left Fury vs. Ruiz Off, Because it's THE Least "Interesting" On Paper, in REED's Opinion...But the Rest Are ALL Watchable w/Varying Degrees of "Interest"... To Be Even MORE FAIR, Wilder is LITERALLY the "Wild Card" Here, Because if He SHITS the Bed vs. Helenius (Fully WITHIN the Realm of Possibility, Admittedly), a LOT of the Bouts REED Listed Will CEASE Being "Interesting"... REED
Usyk could land a million power shots and Slow Joe would just plod forward ponderously as if nothing happened (which is exactly what happened in the WSB fight)
Joyce has kind of grown on me in his own, basic, T-800 way of fighting. I have no interest in seeing him face Fury or Usyk though. Both 12-0 him in my opinion, they'll just out maneuver the guy and not get caught up in an energy-sapping slugfest. I'd be keen to see him against anyone else though.
But that might be where we're at. Yeah Wilder and Ruiz are still there but tbf Ruiz vs Fury or Wilder vs Fury 4 would be a hard fight to sell. The money fight would be Joyce vs AJ. Its a win win for both. From a fan point of view Joyce vs Fury or Joyce vs Joshua sounds more appealing than digging up old wilder or ruiz from the hole they're in and rehashing pointless fights we've already seen before.
I agree. But thats not how things used to be done. But its culturally and financially rewarding and theres no ability to force the Wilder card so Joyce can do what he wants. Theres nothing pointless about a Wilder Litmus test for Joyce. It would embellish any title fight if Joyce first burned through Wilder in a baptism. It doesn't have to happen, so it won't. In the meantime.....
Joyce has that Tour De France quality of NEVER showing any pain. You see those guys climbing the mountains, no air, muscles burnibg6, totally passive faces. Thats Joyce. Of course he feels the shots of his opponents but he suffers it gladly. Very rare. Wilder vs Joyce is potentially better as there's every chance Usyk just reduces Joyce to a cantering borefest. That simply will not happen with Wilder, who WILL hit Joyce with something. For the Brits, Usyk makes more sense-its a title shot, a rematch, it could set up a fight that dwarfs even Fury vs AJ. For a boxing fan who dabbles in the minutiae of "if but maybe".... Wilder vs Joyce is the one. PLUS if Joyce wins...you get the Usyk fight anyways.
