When Watson got injured, he sued the fuck out of the BBfC and won. His entire claim was based on foreseeability and negligence. He was awarded a payout so beyond the means of the BBfC that they had to sell their building to pay it. There is no fucking way that the same organisation was going to sanction a bout in these circumstances. In doing so, they basically sign up to an unlimited liability, again, if something bad happens. I'm no defender of the BBfC, but sometimes things are written on the internet which are just stupid. MTF
Considering only a trace amount was detected (by an entity not recognized by the BBBofC) and Eubank was made aware of the positive test well in advance (can't they make him sign a discharge??), I fail to see how it could make them liable to an outrageous claim in case Eubank got injured (but then again, I'm not a lawyer, and if I was one, for sure I could argue both ways ). Anyhow, if that's the real reason just state it and don't bullshit us about ''boxing s interest''.
It's much easier, and populist, to give it some bullshit about 'dignity' then it is to sell the line that 'we're getting as far away from this as possible in case it goes tits up and we get sued into Bolivian again'. I'd have told the truth, but I'm not them. MTF
Speaking of lawsuit, Hearns seem to hint he will sue them for financial damage, so I'm not really sure it was in the BBBofC best financial interest to ''cancel'' the event
I have some sympathy for Benn, its a gross mismatch sizewise, I'm guessing he was under some financial pressure and pressure from his promoter & Dazn to deliver this, didnt end too well for Brook after Golovkin
Basically, aye. There was no need to take this fight except to cash out. He fucked it up. It's on him. MTF
Agreed, definitely had the look of a cash out or, best case scenario, a half hearted effort followed by a ''I tried but he was just too big'' whicj6 would gather him a ton of accolades from the usual shills.
You’d think that what Kell Brook did would teach these guys something but its clear that the money is talking along with greedy ass Eddie Hearn.
At least with Brook you could see he was on the downslide. He'd done pretty well (considering how limited I thought he was) but Spence gave him a bearing and there wasn't many places for him to go. He got fucked, but his time was done and it made sense to chase the bag. Benn is supposed to be a fighter on the way up, heading into his prime. MTF
Nah, heartless is training enhanced to badly hurt a fighter who is gonna be badly drained to get to his weight, and then inevitably dehydrated. Conveniently a brilliant link to why people don't like Canelo in the other thread.
That’s the thing. Brook at least was in his early 30s and couldn’t get the fights he wanted, so he basically sacrificed an eye to get the bag. Benn as you pointed out, is a young guy in one of the most talented divisions in boxing and doesn’t even appear to be trying to establish himself there. Its out of control but typical Eddie Hearn.
It reeks of desperation from Benn's side. To get Eubank to struggle to get down to 157 and to use PEDS to give himself any chance of winning. Apparently, Benn was tested weeks ago and all this only came out because a newspaper leaked it. So the fight could have gone ahead and Benn could have won. He'd be lapping up the plaudits and we'd all not have a clue that he was doping. The truth always comes out though, doesn't it? It would have been far, far worse for the truth to come out after the fight, if Benn had won and especially if Eubank had suffered some sort of injury. It's likely that Benn has been doing this for some time.
Apparently the only way this father-son duo can win big fights is either by doping, or rabbit punching an opponent into a brain bleed.
I can tell there is a lot of interest in UK fighters on this forum. All the attention on this fake abortion of a fight is getting here and meanwhile nobody mentions theres a solid card with real fighters happening on Showtime. Fundora vs Campos and Adames vs Montiel. Good action fights tomorrow. Dont miss it guys.
Hearn hasnt a leg to stand on..... The BBBofC have NO obligation to sanction his fights and often he profits up out of all proportion by them sanctioning his fights. He shouldn't be asking them to sanction this shit.
Well said Bunce. Hearn absolutely doesnt give a fuck about anyone other than himself. He'd happily see the entire thing degenerate into a dangerous farce provided he got his 1m ppv. You know what he'd do then? He'd turn around and blame the BBBofC for sanctioning the fight.
Eubank can shut up too about "failed tests"..... This guy is his promoter...seen him at ringside-repeatedly- OFF HIS NUT on coke. These guys make Don King look nice.
:Jest : Shutup Hearn. Saunders failed a test for a diuretic and the fight didn't concern the BBBoC but rather a regional US body. Benn, on the other hand, was clearly trying to negate the strength disparity between him. And Eubank and maximise on early "tightness" brought about by Eubank making the 157lb catch. Then theres this gem
It now has to be concluded, As Jimbo said earlier, that they knew they'd been rumbled (ironically the head of UK Doping Agency is a Miss Jane Rumble) so they sat on it and didnt crack open the B sample. They must have hoped they could hide the football and run the clock down. Somebody rang the Daily Mail and blabbed for a few quid and the whole thing came out.
Eddie Hearn now playing games. He's deliberately conflating two totally fucking separate issues 1. Whether Benn did or did not cheat. 2. Whether Benn did or did not fail a test which Hearn then tried to hush-up and push for the fight to get made regardless. Hearn is saying "wait for all the information to come out" but there's only 1 aspect that applies to, namely the first aspect, whether Benn cheated or not. We KNOW he failed a test. We KNOW they tried to stymie the B sample release and tried to get the fight to take place BEFORE and AFTER the news came out. We know they shopped around for different sanctioning bodies before deciding that the loss of the BBBofC was fatal to their cause. There's no confusion here....there's "no information" that needs to "come out" in those regards. But Hearn wants to muddy the whole thing up.
There was about £20m that effectively went down the toilet this weekend. That's huge money. For that kind of money these guys will do anything.. Eubank was ready to fight Benn drugs or no drugs. Benn was ready to fight Eubank, test or no test. It was the Board of Control who walked away from it and I find it really reassuring that a stuffy old organisation like the Board kicked the legs out from under these flash fucks who think it's all good no matter fucking what. Hearn, the cunt, wanted the Board to sanction it so if anything went wrong he could lay it at their door.....and if nothing went wrong, he could say he does things "by the board". They told him to stuff it and for all his big talk he KNEW nobody else would sanction his junk cos if it went South they would walk away from him. Fuck off Eddie, fuck right off, you rolled the dice and tried to make Megabucks out of a fight that wasn't there to be made and it backfired. I hope he never gets a second chance.
