    A few candidates:

    1. At the height of the David Haye hype, his fans said he would KO prime Tyson.

    2. Circa 2011, at the height of Khan's hype, I remember some of his fans saying he would beat a prime Chavez.

    3. Before being exposed by Fimo, many Loma fans saying Loma would beat lightweight Duran, and beat Floyd at 130.

    4. In the mid-2000s, I remember a few Calzaghe groupies saying he would beat Mike Spinks at 175.

    5. At the height of AJ's hype, Sly saying Joshua would KO prime Frazier in 2.

Which is the most ridiculous of these?

I distinctly remember Pat M saying that Artur Splizka would beat Muhammad Ali.

There was once a guy on ESB about 8-10 years ago, forgot his name. Absolutely fanatical about Tony Ayala.

Said Ayala would have KO'd Hagler, Leonard, and Hearns had he not gotten locked up.

One of these boxing YouTubers said last year that Canelo beats prime Hagler.

    I immediately unsubbed.

In the early message board days, on Second's Out, you had A LOT of guys saying that Naz would destroy Floyd.

That all stopped after the Corrales fight.

You can tell the boxing game is struggling based on these topics you guys create. I appreciate the dedication to keeping this place alive, but shit is real dry

Back when actual matchups were taking place these type discussions were relegated to the mythical forum

Hopefully next year is more eventful. In the meantime I'll look forward to actual signed bouts that will be entertaining. Prograis zepeda and gonzalez Estrada 3. Both of which I shall watch live

Is that the guy that Wilder splattered, or is that the guy that fell down and hurt himself against Martin?

Yes, it is a very shitty time in boxing.

2023 will likely be better; only because it can't get worse.

I'm hoping AT LEAST we finally get Taylor vs Lopez next year. If Josh beats Jack in the rematch, there's no excuse for that one not happening.

Prograis-Zepeda is ehhhhh IMO. Its only a premier matchup because of how low the sport is right now. In a good year, it'd be an average matchup.

I don't see why Zepeda all of a sudden is held in such high regard. He's a guy who still dropped a close decision to Ramirez, and Regis is a helluva lot better than Ramirez.

I don't see it as a compelling matchup, because I give Zepeda virtually no chance.

    Extremely overrated matchup.

Valdez is so overrated. That's arguably Stevensons best win. If he moves up and beats a top guy at 135 I say he has a shot at being FOTY

Outside of Bivol, who's done more this year than beating Robson and Valdez?

Beating a top three pound-for-pound guy who was also the undisputed champion in the weight below; then beating a much bigger undefeated former champ isn't enough?

It's probably Haye beating Tyson, Khan beating Chavez, Loma beating Duran and Calzaghe beating Spinks, in order of decreasing unlikeliness.

AJ probably doesn't beat Frazier in 2 rounds but he could beat him or enjoy more "moments" Frazier is the only favoured guy in those matchups at a pronounced physical disadvantage with a track record of hard fights with really AJ level style/quality opponents.

Once Chavez figures Khan's boxbottery out, he destroys him.

Duran eventually does likewise to Loma but Loma can make fight of it.

Calzaghe could adapt and survive Vs Spinks but if he chooses to fight he's getting dropped.

Haye would get DQd Vs Tyson. He's running all night.

If You’re Speaking of Bivol, No, It’s Not Enough…

Zurdo Ramirez Sucks Dick Bruh…He’s Not a Resume Enhancer for a “Fighter of the Year” Caliber Guy, in REED’s Opinion…

Zurdo sucks, but I thought he had a shot just because he's a heavyweight.

    Bivol is FOTY imo.

Canelo is Obviously a GREAT Win But It’s Still Just 1 Win…Bivol’s ONLY Other Fight of 2022 was Zurdo…

No Shade Against Bivol, a HELLUVA Fighter, But if Canelo and Zurdo is ALL it Takes to Garner “Fighter of the Year”, the State of Boxing is Even SADDER Than REED Thought…

REED Thinks Awarding NO ONE This Year Might Serve the Purpose of WAKING Elite Fighters Up, Getting Them OFF Their Asses…

Short of IGNORING Fights Altogether, This is the Media and the Fans WAY of Getting Fighters Collective Attention…

NONE of You Bitches Truly DESERVES “Fighter of the Year” So Guess What, We’re NOT Awarding It…Granted, This WON’T Happen But it SHOULD…

I think I agree with you in that Bivol isn't worth of FOTY. Two defenses, one against a smaller guy and the other against an average contender can't be enough.

Then I tried to find somebody, anybody more deserving, and it was damn difficult. Shit, Devin Haey is one of the few guys with even TWO credible WINS this year.

Bam Rodriguez probably deserves it thr most, but I wouldn't complain if nobody got it

Actually forgot rodriguez fought 3 tines this year, that alone should garner him the award

As for the actual topic. How about when all the Trinidad groupies swore he'd knock out Hopkins then move to 168 and knock out jones jr?

I never understood how boxingfagsanddicks which was 90% Hispanic had such a hard on for Pavlik. Pavlik was going to be the LHW world champ, the cruiserweight world chamo and even the heavyweight world champ. Some absolutely delusional fucks on that site.

And that's what I'm disagreeing with. Beating the pound-for-pound so clearly is impressive then topping it off with a second good win is worthy IMO. Especially when the size difference between Bivol and Canelo in reality, is really small. I agree, the years been shit, but not all boxers have been shit. Bivol has had a good year by any normal standard. By the standard of one of the worst years ever, he's been brilliant.

Whether Canelo was smaller or not, that's all hindsight. The FACT is Canelo was a huge favorite. Also a fact that Ramirez was considered a live dog.

Bivol made both look ordinary. He's FOTY.
