A brutal reminder that there's a big gap between Asian football and Latin America football.

There is, but Qatar isn't exactly a proper representative of Asian football any more than Cyprus is of European football.

A commercial on my stream for a network broadcasting the Champions League called it "The greatest tournament on earth".

That's debatable, but kind of funny they used that phrase during a World Cup.

So you don't think Real Madrid will be making moves for anybody on this side after the tourney?

I think Vinicius would obliterate Qatar's defense even if you cut both his feet off.

I kind of hope the US and A beat England just for the media reaction. The English will say the manager should be fired on the spot and most of the line-up should be flogged in the public square. The Americans will use it as evidence they've "ARRIVED ON THE WORLD STAGE!".

This match is like one of those FA Cup matches where you get a non-league side up against a decent Championship/League 1 club. They're trying but way out of their depth. The problem is they still have to face the Premier League side :Jest:

Saw some guy in the crowd in the home section wearing a Qatar jersey with a pile of tattoos including on his neck. Clearly a local Qatari.

Please, God no. Though the English reaction would be hilarious, I wouldn't ne able to stomach the U.S. reaction.

Stephen A Smith screaming into the camera: "THIS BROTHA PULISIC IS THE GREATEST SOCCAH PLAYER IVE EVER SEEN!"

    :Jest:

Then just turn off American TV for a couple of days and tune into English media.

I don't think i could listen to SAS talking for more than 30 seconds about any topic.

If US beat England, Kellerman on ESPN: "I haven't came this hard since Whitaker shut out Greg Haugen."

When USA beat England 1-0 in 1950, some newspaper accounts concluded there had been a mistake in the trans Atlantic telegram and that the final score was 10-1 to England

In all seriousness, we have a decent side, we're not Qatar, but England has far too much talent to have any businesses losing to us. If they did, they SHOULD be dragged by the UK media.

Curious about the Dutch. Our most important asset, i believe, is actually our coach, King Louis. One of the few coaches that can actually make a difference. Tactically, and experience wise I see no equal momentarily. If he manages to form a collective, The Dutch could be a nasty obstacle for many opponents. While we have no forward players anymore like Van Basten, Gullit, Bergkamp, Van Nistelrooy or Robben. We do have a strong defense: Van Dijk, Ake and De Ligt. Perhaps if Memphis makes his return on the pitch next week (slightly injured now), he can create some magic upfront.

We are not meant to ever win a World Cup, every Dutchman knows that. But perhaps the semi’s, and I’ll be content.

BBC has predictably been a woke hypocritical mess.

    Ecuador look bang average.

Meh, if the U.S. were to beat England, it wouldn't even be top 20 upsets in WC history.

I have a feeling that unless USA freeze and England score early, we may see a scoreless draw, England have scored very little recently and USA are also toothless up front

Never saw such a pisspoor host side..Emir may order FIFA to change rules so that if it's scoreless after three minutes the game is decided by a camel race or a race of high performance sports cars across the desert

I didn't watch the second half. Did Ecuador carry them or did Qatar actually do something?
