I know people are hoping for Spain vs Brazil in the quarters but I could see Brazil being upset by anyone.

Neymar IS or WAS an absurdly talented footballer though, if we are talking pure technique and skill. I hate to defend him because I can't stand the cunt and all the diving, but the hype was justified I felt. Messi-Neymar-Suarez is the greatest front three of all time and only Salah-Mane-Firminho and Ronaldo-Tevez-Rooney can compete with them imo.

Same. Brazil have to rediscover that ruthless mentality they used to have, they need a big win. When was their last one in a World Cup? It might legit be the 2002 final but my memory is admittedly shit.

I want to see how they handle being hit, like a boxer, it's the true test. 1-0 down with 20 minutes to go, see how they look then.

England can beat them, I'm so sure of it.

Agreed....it's 2002. And that was a very very average German side. Since then they've feasted on minnows and average units, Australia, Serbia, Columbia, Ghana, Chile, Croatia etc....

I'm not saying he's not ultra talented

This isn't the champions league....they're taking his club form and club reputation and grafting it onto his international performances....his international performances have been average and hve, as a rule at the World Cup, been littered with diving and shenanigans and total melodrama.

That's why I called him the Nearly Man.

But it's all overlooked out of sheer deference to the little pricks reputation.

I won’t argue against it but at its PEAK, I thought Messi,Villa,Pedro and Messi,Eto’o,Henry were arguably better than Messi,Neymar,Suarez.

You can’t go wrong with any of them, though.

Isn't he close to breaking Pele's record for the most goals for Brazil?

He's usually been an underwhelming international performer though?

    Messi-Villa-Pedro is a good shout.

You know me, I think myself and you are the biggest Villa fans out there, the guy was insanely brilliant and I'll never argue otherwise. Pedro was an absurdly good player but he suffers from who was around him, he was fantastic but we are talking seriously rarified air here. I love Pedro but I don't think you can put him on the same level as MSN, he's literally just a half step below.

Eto'o is IMO the greatest African player ever. Henry is one of my favourite players of all time, but we have to be honest, as great as he was, at Barcelona he just wasn't the same guy who was at Arsenal. That would have been something to behold. Don't get me wrong, that front three tears up 95% of leagues, it's just we are talking Messi, Neymar and Suarez ALL at their peak. It's seriously tough to beat that.

@puerto rock , would you put the Ronaldo-Benzema-Bale front three up there?

I loved Weah but yeah if I'm honest Eto'o was better by quite a bit. Prime Eto'o was an absolute beast, he scored against ANYONE.

For me, and I get people might disagree with it, I personally think Eto'o, Drogba and Salah are in a league of their own when you're talking about the greatest African forwards.

    At the World Cup.

    Pele won 3 World Cups.

    Neymar not one.....

Banging in goals Vs Ecuador or Paraguay means nothing to me. Pele likely had far fewer opportunities too, fewer games then.

Yeah, I realize who was the more prolific.

Pele was also out there getting basically raped on the pitch, and not whining.

I would. They scored a lot of goals between them. But Ronaldo, Benzema, DiMaria was lethal too.

He was SCARY. He was so fast and he had this uncanny ability to beat the offside trap.

My top 5 favorite (not necessarily the GOATs)strikers of all time in no particular order are

    Henry
    Villa
    Eto’o
    Ronaldo Nazario
    Romario

Of them all, it’s arguable Eto’o was the biggest threat in goal.

I think at his absolute peak he has an argument of being the deadliest on goal in those one on one situations when he has the defenders beaten on the off side trap and it’s just him vs the keeper.

Not an overall better striker than those other two as far as technique, skill, dribbling, passing, heading, etc.

With respect, I think Eto'o is being a bit overrated in this thread. A great player, but not as great as being claimed here imo.
