It's at the point now where you just have to presume it will always be thus. It never changes. Should have won that fairly comfortably, somehow lost.

It should even out over time, though. And there was nothing really 'unlucky' about any of that. Two goals conceded through really poor defending and your star striker puts a penalty into space.

This group of players should be good enough to win something. They should have won the last Euro and probably should have won this one. But I could list half a dozen should haves in my lifetime now and I'm mostly resigned to it at this point. I absolutely knew Kane was going to miss that pen. Knew it with absolute certainty.

The thing is, once England actually DO get that win over an elite side in WC knockout round (has to happen eventually), it'll be all systems go. They have to get that monkey off their back.

I've always thought if you've already taken a penalty in a match you shouldn't take a second. I know there are loads of examples where it's worked out, but it just puts additional pressure on you as you second guess whether you should put it in the same place or not. The first time you already know.

You're forgetting the elephant in the room.....he and Lloris play for the same club. He must have spent HOURS in training taking kicks against him.

My own digestion of that is as follows:-

In summary, it was one part robbed, one part self inflicted, with emphasis on the latter.

Regarding the latter, shot in the foot, that can be divided into on-field/ off-field

On the field, a criminally performative piece of "goalkeeping" and a missed penalty did the damage.

Off the field, somebody was responsible for sending those guys out in such a mindset as they began that game in an uncharacteristically tense and tepid fashion such that they were on the back foot and behind and chasing it before long.

We all know who was responsible for that. Firing is now in order.

There are other factors. The World by now is aware that the British media class, being the moral superior of fucking nobody, have insinuated and implied all manner of shit and at times plain outright insulted all and sundry before and during this thing.

By the by, things go against you, when you've pissed off so many people....in such an utterly unnecessary fashion.

Not a conspiracy, not anything rigid or formal, but ..... a bit here, a bit there.

It also weighs on the players. They're being asked to lead charges on and off the field. Taking the knee as SENEGAL stood? All a bit much.

There's the pips now upstairs. 11pm.... A familiar refrain will follow ....

Sterling dithering on the edge of the French box in the 98th minute before MAGUIRE of all people showed some fucking initiative..... that summed it up.

A hesitant fluttering gadfly of a player who is considered undroppable because of NAKEDLY political matters which have no bearing on football.

He's there because "Nice Man" Gareth will do the bidding of the powers. City have slung him out. Why can't Gareth? See above.

That says a lot for me. That's an awful lot of baggage to have to hump about.

    It won't change.

Regarding other football matters....Mbappe...overrated as fuck. Did nothing. Couple of runs. Zilch besides.

A pretty average 4 teams left.

The Ireland team of 1990 to 1992 would have made shit of them.

England had two penalties but none of them were clear goal scoring opportunities as opposed to dumb defending.

There was desperation in asking for that red card. Borne to some extent of the feeling the ref was on their case.

Correct, but they should have had a minimum seven penalties.

To be fair, the Bellingham and Maguire efforts in the second half were good attempts. Good save for the former and just off target on the latter.
