I did. I still consider CR right up there as an ATG but Messi has won a Copa America and a WC in the last couple of years and played an integral part in both. I know we will disagree as you don't place international results that highly, but for me that puts Messi on a different level.

Plus Ronaldo has become a gargantuan cunt recently :Jest:

Basically if maradona had been born in bolivia (but been otherwise identical) he wouldn't be in the discussion, and if cr7 had been born across the border in spain (and thus won a world cup) he'd have been much greater. And if cryuff hadnt been subject to that kidnapping attempt and had played in and won '78 he'd be goat. And if one or two of Messis teammates had missed a penalty on sunday he'd be relegated a whole echelon of greatness. Right or wrong, Im just saying there's an awful lot of sheer arbitrariness to this way of judging players!

To be fair, I do factor that stuff in. It has to be weighted properly. Best was obviously never going to win a World Cup with Northern Ireland so I didn't hold that against him. CR7 was in sufficiently good Portugal sides for it to count imo (mid-2000's Portugal especially when he was alongside Figo, Deco and a whole host of players who had just won the Champions League with Porto in 2004). Bottled it against Greece in a tournament they hosted and went missing against France in 2006.

I reckon adjusting for the size and pedigree of each nation Ronaldo has been every bit Messi's equal at international level.

Portugal aren't exactly minnows though. No they're not an Argentina, Germany or Brazil in terms of historic success but they're not a Northern Ireland or Iceland either. As I said, in the 2000's they had arguably their greatest side ever and when it mattered Ronaldo for whatever reason just didn't turn up. Now I agree with you that the whole career should be taken into question. I will defend Ronaldo being in the upper echelon of all time great footballers any day of the week. His numbers alone are absolutely mind blowing. The thing is when you are talking the greatest of all time, the margins of separation are tiny, and that's when things like performances in crunch games at major international tournaments have to be taken into consideration.

Not sure what year that was but Pele was born 21 years after Gretzky so he probably needed his hard-on pills by this point

If Ray had his usual promotional power theyd have ran the race backwards over twice the standard distance and he'd have won

On a serious note, Leonard, Gretzky, and Borg were all in their physical primes in that race. Pele was only old man, and he still beat Leonard, and Borg only edged him out barely at the very end.

Pele in his 20s would have won that thing.

Had they raced on French clay, Borg would have won.

Rondon has agreed to terminate his contract. A year too late but not his fault. He got thrown into this and he had to know he's just not on this level any more. Someone on the EvertonUSA page said it best. Playing with Rondon up front is worse than playing with ten men. It's playing with ten men and giving the opponent a 12th man.. Because he stifles every attack we have that involves him.

He hadn't been playing much but hopefully we get a third striker.

Right now it's Dominic "Catwalk" Lewin who gets injured every other practice session and can now only score from three feet or closer and Neal Maupay who has had one good game since he joined from Brighton. Third striker now would be Gordon who is a good winger that can't finish. Our three best academy strikers are all out on loan for the rest of the season.

Aye ive been following, albeit just thru motd highlights. Seemed like you need to a new first choice 9 semi-urgently &sowas just wondering if selling Rondon might be in anticipation of that....'heads up, ronnie: you're gonna be 4th choice now, fancy getting off the wage bill, la'? Ta'.

How do we see Arsenal going without Jesus? His goals have dried up but he's chipped in with assists.

One of our old players who stayed on the roster for a comically long time after his sell by date was Mohammed "Mo" Besic. He showed promise when he first arrived. Made some first team appearances and then fell out with several managers. I'm not sure if they couldn't sell him or he refused or what the deal was but he went a good three years or so just on the roster/wage bill with no hope of ever seeing the pitch again. When he finally left, most Everton fans couldn't believe he was still there.

It's going to be harder to retain possession because of Jesus' work rate. It's crazy that Arsenal only dropped 5 points despite Jesus not scoring since September. I'd try Martinelli at CF after bringing in Mudryk. Backup Eddie Nketiah isn't even close to ready. I don't even trust him in Europa league games.

We had the same issue with Shaun Wright-Phillips. We went on some dumb-as-fuck spending spree when we first got promoted to the Prem and got taken over by rich owners. Paying way over the odds for over the hill mercenaries. We signed Wright-Phillips on a ridiculous contract with absurd wages. He only scored one goal for us and hadn't played for ages, was told he wasn't going to get another game yet refused to go even though he couldn't even get on the bench. Don't blame him either, he was getting £57,000 a week for doing fuck all.

Aye we had the same thing happen years ago with a big guy called bobo balde who was one of the highest earners at the club under O'Neil. Gordon Strachan came in and for reasons we never got to the bottom of just never played him but rather than accept a transfer the big tadger just sat on his arse for 3 years cashing cheques....i remember being pissed about at it the time but i guess he might've been funding water infrastructure for the west african town he was from or something, who knows

Most in-yr-face year for pro-hun officiating since the 90s. We've got orange lodge members, rangers youth coaches, louden tavern denizens officiating big games and they're not hiding anything. About 7 or 8 weeks running its cost us or credited them a goal
