I stopped reading after Floyd "destroys" Chavez. Saying Floyd could beat Chavez in a competitive affair is perfectly fine. Floyd "destroying" Chavez is just a troll statement.

So you feel the need to excuse the Castillo fight at every turn, but nothing to say about the claim that Mayweather destroys Chavez?

if mayweather jr had fought the older version of chavez at 145lbs that whitaker did, i think he would have won decisively.

Floyd wasn't as physically strong as Whitaker. I think it would have been competitive.

Whitaker I truly believe was better at handling pressure fighters than Floyd. Pea ate pressure fighters for lunch. Floyd struggled with quick footed pressure. Floyd was at his best against methodical, slow footed guys like Canelo, Cotto, and Chico.

It's the reason why Whitaker has better odds against prime Duran than Floyd would.

you should ask some of his opponents about his physical strength, if thats what you think. he hit hard enough to get chavez respect in a 145 lb fight. if it is at 130-135 vs a younger, fresher chavez i think it would have been competitive.

Ohh don't get me wrong, I would pick Floyd over Chavez at 140-147. I just doubt he dominates.

I agree that it's best to match them at 130 or 135.

if he faces the version whitaker faced, 80 or 90 fights deep into his career, at a weight he never looked good at, then i cant see any result other than a wide decision victory for mayweather jr.

I don't even think Mayweather is a lock over that Chavez.

There's absolutely no difference between the Chavez Whitaker beat than the Chavez who beat Haugen. The way Mayweather struggled with clever pressure fighters is in no way comforting for how he'd fair against Chavez.

It isn't even just the Castillo fights that point to it. He didn't exactly shine against guys like Maidana, Cotto, Hatton, Corley, Sosa, or Jesus Chavez. In reality, he lost rounds to all of those guys, and clearly found it more difficult adapting to them than he did any other type of fighter. And Chavez - even the one Whitaker beat - was better than all of them put together.

I'd actually make Floyd a more comfortable favourite against Whitaker from 93 than Chavez.

Whitaker also beat the Hell outta Chavez because Whitaker was a high activity fighter. Floyd's workrate was lower than Pea's. There's nothing to suggest he just dominates Chavez. I already described the style Floyd shined against.

A guy like Arguello would be ideal for Floyd to look good against.

chavez didnt do great against black fighters that possessed similar traits as mayweather jr with hand speed and skill. i guess we wont talk about that aspect.

Chavez had zero issue whatsoever breaking down Roger... twice. Last time I checked, Roger was not only black, he was black with the same DNA as Floyd.

the rematch was a tough tough fight for chavez. he said so himself. he ate some monster right hands. first fight was flukish cuz mayweather was dead at the weight. chavez also admitted that.

Granted, I haven't watched Chavez-Mayweather II in maybe 15-16 years, but I recall Roger being pretty outclassed once JCC decided to really turn on the heat.

Absolutely not at all. The first four rounds were absolutely awful for him. He shined because he opened up and fought in the pocket because Chavez was ass. Mayweather still needed more time to figure him out than he did Shane Mosley....

It's not a style that suits him. At all.

Even if that is true, and maintain it's not, it was the weakest of the examples I gave and the one I gave last.

What about the rest of them?

You got excuses for all of those too?

There's no excuses to give. He executed the game plan to a tee

His gameplan against Cotto was to get marked up and outworked against the ropes?

His gameplan against Maidana was to give away the first five rounds?

    Would these work against Chavez?

Against chavez he executed the gameplan to a tee. One of the finest performances of his career.

You lumped in a bunch of random opponents as examples of "pressure fighters" ? Corley? :Jest: Sosa? :Jest:

Cotto didn't trouble Mayweather Jr with pressure.

How old was Mayweather Jr when he fought cotto and maidana

Its not. It's one of the most fun fights, but that's only because it was Chavez landed and Mayweather stayed inside.

Corley and Sosa, both troubled Mayweather by getting up close, pushing him back and outworking him in patches. That's what a pressure fighter is...

Well what did Cotto trouble him with them? lol

    So there are the excuses....

Please, present your argument as to why Mayweather beats Chavez then. I'm all ears.
