I believe Henry Armstrong was part Native American. Based on that, it goes:

    1. Henry Armstrong

    (ginormous fucking gap)

    2. Danny Lopez

    (another ginormous fucking gap)

    3. Marvin Camel

Both Joe Louis and Jack Dempsey were 1/8 Native Americans

You leave A LOT open by naming Armstrong, because theres a very high percentage of Black Americans with at least some Native American in them (including me).

It is kind of odd that there are not more Native American pro fighters, much less champions. Boxing is huge on every reservation that I am aware of. When I was in Phoenix teaching boxing, I learned that there is a gym in every community of any size within the Navajo Nation. I am currently training two fighters that started on the Blackfeet Reservation at a gym there. There are cousins of the guy that fought Nico Walsh Ali fight before last and he started at the same gym. The last- only?- national Gold Gloves champion from Montana is a Native American. For whatever reasons, many of which I believe are cultural, very few of the Native American boxers turn pro.

Interested to hear about what you think these cultural reasons are?

I don't know what the reasons would be. That is a supposition based on conversations that I have either heard or been part of.
