Best short left hookers of all time

Which guys threw the best short, murderous left hooks in history?

The immediate three who come to mind are:

Louis
Arguello
Corrales

Who else?

 

Curry also comes to mind.

 

Liston had an incredible short left hook, which is an amazing talent considering his 81 inch reach.

 

I just mentioned him, but Shibata.

Miguel Canto, too.

 

Canto threw a very effective short hook. I meant more as a knockout punch, but I should have stipulated that.

 

In that case, I'd say Sandy Saddler. Sure, he's not exactly know for short shots, but when he was mauling somebody, his short tight hooks were second only to his short tight uppercuts. He crucified bodies with them.

 

Same with Bowe, amazing how he could throw those short, powerful hooks on the inside considering his size

 

I know he didn't accomplish anything, but young Tony Ayala Jr. had a devastating, and very short/compact hook. As far as talented psychos go, Ayala had a lot more natural ability than scrubby Valero.

Palomino vs Green is one of the best one punch KOs ever imo.

 

Michael Carbajal threw some nice short left hooks.

Jhonny Gonzalez also had a devastating left hook, especially the one that stopped Mares.

And of course Nonito Donaire had a murderous left that became his signature weapon.

 

Trinidad’s two short hooks he used on Zulu to finish him were beautiful.

A lot of the Mexicans have traditionally been very effective at shortening and compacting hooks up close even if they were rangy fighters, it seems to be a staple of their schooling. Macias, Pintor, Zarate, Palomino, Canto, Chavez, Sanchez to varying degrees. Saldivar from the opposite side. Ironically Olivares, the best Mexican left hooker often had a wider punching arc with it. Becerra the same.

Ortiz could really tighten his left hook up close, often while grappling and ragging opponents around in the clinch. Lou Ambers the same.

I was rewatching a bit of Pedroza the other day vs Lockridge and Laporte and all three of them were really good at shortening their hooks, especially Pedroza to Laportes bollocks.

 

Carbajal is an excellent shout.

And, boring choice, but Tua really could KO you with a left hook which traveled about three inches

 

Frazier hook wasnt short at all

 

I haven't seen it in years, but I seem to remember the Tua left hook he KO'd Wilson with being very short and compact.
