I fell off from watching football in the last month or two. Once again getting back in. What happened to Antony at United? I don't see him starting anymore. Is he officially a flop? I get the feeling that Antony's style of play would be better suited at some mid-table La Liga squad.

He will always have my respect for that. I ignored it the first 2-3 times he started talking but it kept on so fans backlashed.

RIP john motson. We used to have his landline phone number when we were teenagers - we got it off some dodgy geezer who sold wrestling vhs tapes - and we'd call him up when we were pissed and bam him up. He was never rude, sometimes he'd even get quite into it. Seemed an alright sort. Everything about that story now sounds as vintage as Mozzas sheepskin.

Yeah I think United should win, they were the better side in Spain I thought. Barca have a good record over them though, think it has been about 15 years or something since Utd last won, so it wouldn't surprise me if they nicked it.

Florian Wirtz on Leverkusen is one my favorite young players to watch. Had my eye on him since last year, but he got injured. He's an electric talent.

Wouldn't mind Leverkusen winning something tbh. The 2002 season where they were well on course for the treble (league title, German Cup, champions league) and somehow managed to fuck all of them up and implode in a matter of weeks is probably the worst thing I could imagine as a fan. Add to that, they've never been Champions of Germany or Europe in their entire history and will likely never get that opportunity again...man that is shite. I don't support that club in any way, but that is honestly the most brutal thing a fan could ever go through, having your hands on three trophies and letting them all slip out of your grasp. It's a sympathy thing.

The team earned a series of four-second-place finishes from 1997 to 2002. The finishes of 2000 and 2002 were heart-breaking for supporters as on both occasions the team had the Bundesliga title within its grasp. In 2000, Bayer Leverkusen needed only a draw against SpVgg Unterhaching to win the title, but an own goal by Michael Ballack helped send the team to a crushing 2–0 defeat, while Bayern Munich clinched the title with a 3–1 victory over Werder Bremen. Two years later, the club surrendered a five-point lead atop the league table by losing two of its last three matches while Borussia Dortmund swept ahead with three consecutive victories in its final matches. The 2002 season has been dubbed the "Treble Horror", as Bayer Leverkusen were also beaten 4–2 in the DFB-Pokal final by Schalke 04 and lost the UEFA Champions League final 2–1 to Real Madrid, which also led to some of the English-language media dubbing them "Neverkusen". Leverkusen was the first team to reach the final of the Champions League without ever having won a national championship. In addition, five members of the Bayer Leverkusen team were also members of the Germany national team who lost in the final of the World Cup in the same year.

Very good win for Man U in the end. They were unbelievably poor in the first half, second 45 a completely different team.

A lot of teams getting caught out trying to play out from the back in european competition this week, mostly through goalkeeping errors. At least half a dozen big chances conceded like that. Maybe the next phase in fitbaws tactical arms race, as hugh presses get better and better, is more teams reverting to a good hardy punt again

Is there a spot in Glesga where tourists can sit back with a bag of popcorn and watch some good ol fashion sectarianism should they be so inclined?

It's a weird thing for me. I want the English clubs to advance to keep my interest in it (and keep England's place high in the UEFA rankings.) But I generally cheer against them (money clubs) once they hit the quarterfinals.

Not on the same level but that reminds me of a few years back. Curzon Ashton had never reached the 3rd Rd of the FA Cup. They led AFC Wimbledon at home 3-0 with ten minutes to play in the 2nd Rd. Fans were chanting about Wembley and their ground was buzzing. They gave up four goals in the last ten minutes and were eliminated.

Doing this from memory so I'll fact check the details later.

I get that. I had similar feelings recently when rangers got to the europa final and england to the euro finals: pretty ambivalent or even cooly supportive until shit got real

Eddie Howe already does that here. One of the most notable features of Howe's set up is that Pope regularly plays it diagonally long instead of fucking around at the back.

Far more entertaining than the current NBA, but yes, same level of defense.
