Supposedly, this is a good matchup. I've seen Matias before and he's a quality figbter. But what about Ponce? I do not recall seeing him fight before.
Ponce is a pretty decent fighter from the few fights Ive seen of him. Obviously not proven. This fight is highly anticipated due to the style match up between 2 fighters that come forward and throw a lot of punches. Ponce is more of a volume puncher while Matias is a bomber with all of his wins by KO. I think it’ll be an entertaining scrap.
Fight lived up to the anticipation and it did become a war while it lasted. But goddammit that ending was seriously anticlimactic and another premature stoppage once again. Major props to Matias though. I think he’ll give the top 140 pound fighters a run for their money. The guy is a monster.
It was an odd ending. The punch that ultimately ended it was borderline low, tho it seemed like an accumulation over the past few rounds
I think Ponce was shocked by the accumulation of power punches from Matias. He blew his load from the start and just wilted. I wouldn’t mind seeing a rematch though.
Matias is tough and will make for entertaining fights. I don’t think he beats Prograis but I’d like to see him against Catterall or the winner of Taylor-Lopez.
Mattias vs Prograis is a dream matchup, neither are ever in a dull fight. The only concern is if Mathias is able to take Orograis power, if so, FOTY for sure
