At this point we don’t know if the fight with Usyk will ever happen. First he wants 70/30 split and now he’s refusing to do a rematch clause. Keep in mind that this is the same guy that gave Dereck Chisora two rematches and yet he outright feels entitled to deny Usyk a rematch in case Usyk makes the fight competitive. Fury continues to show his true colors. Lost respect that I had for him.

Tyson Fury challenges Oleksandr Usyk to waive rematch clause ahead of blockbuster fight

Remarch clause shouldnt exist in the first place. They are a curse on boxing. 70/30 is a bit too much, but even then i can see the case for it

Does Fury Have a Rematch Clause Whilst REFUSING to Grant Usyk One???:Dont:...

If That's the Case agREED, This is Bullshit on Fury's Part...But if Fury ISN'T Demanding a Rematch Clause for Himself, WHY Would He Grant One to Usyk???...

    REED Doesn’t Mind Rematch Clauses…

Most View Them as UNCERTAINTY On the Part of the Fighter Demanding One, But REED Looks at it as INSURANCE…

Usyks people released a statement yesterday, very canny, very cryptic, wherein they said that Fury's people "want no left arm and no testing".....the first part is obvious, their terms are so outrageous they'll be asking for Usyk to fight one handed.

The second part is more interesting....I don't know if it's just a throw away remark/projection or something more serious.

But if Fury is insisting on "no testing" then that's a bad bad look.

Usyk calling Fury's bluff was pretty cool and Fury's insistence on doing the negotiations in public just makes me think we're not getting the fight.

And 70/30 Fury when he brings a tenth of the resume and a quarter of the belts is ridiculous IMO.

It’s coming across to me like Fury doesn’t really want this fight.

I agree 70/30 is extreme, but I also want to point out that belts don't mean anything (that is, nothing at all), Fury is the actual champion and his resume at heavyweight is much deeper. He deserves the bigger piece of the cake.

I believe Fury wants the bout, this is merely his traditional, annoying pre-bout nonsense

Fury Has LINEAGE and More Impressive HEAVYWEIGHT Scalps…Fury’s Also a DRAW…

As Great as Usyk Is, He Ran a Division NO ONE Gave a Shit About…The Crusierweight Division Has Been a PITSTOP Historically, Not a Feather in the Cap of a Fighter Moving Up to Negotiate a Heavyweight Bout…

Now if Joshua was Still in Possession of 3/4ths of the Belts, Negotiations Would Be a LOT Trickier…Joshua Also Has Heavyweight Scalps and is a Bonafide Box Office Draw, Something Usyk’s NEVER Proven to Be…

I sort of agree with what rock and George have said. Usyk is the greater and more accomplished fighter by some distance, deserving of a far better split, and I'm getting the impression that Fury doesn't fancy the fight much.

He's a fecking gonk most of the time.

I think the fact you have to cut it to his heavyweight resume makes the entirety of the argument worthless. Usyk is pound for pound number one, cleared out what was one of the best divisions in boxing, and in four fights at heavyweight, has the second best resume in the division. Based on what he's done, he deserves FAR more than Fury.

If by actual champion, you mean the lineal champion, I'd say, so what? Fury beating Wlad was seven years ago. All he's done since, is beat one of the worst technical fighters to ever win a title a few times.

The only reason Fury deserves 50/50, is simply because he's a bigger name. There's nothing else to it at all. His ability, accomplishments and standing are all below Usyks.

So did Callum Smith deserve 70/30 against Canelo?

Not 70/30, but in a perfect world, yes, I'd give the champion the bigger purse.

Also, Callum's legacy as a champion was very questionable. Here, it is obvious that however you look at it, Fury is THE champion. The lineal champ with the best record in the division -> obviously the champion.

To me, technical skills are meaningless, achievements are the only thing that matters. According to most, Wilder would KO Usyk's best hw win and at the time Fury beat him, his status was very high in the division (and still is).

Usyk needs Fury much more than vice versa

Fair enough, let's agree to disagree. I don't think narrowing down a fighter to the scope of the division the fight takes place in makes much sense, personally. For me, the fighters career as a whole is what should define them. And in both Usyk, and Canelo's cases, I think it's fair for them to get/have got the lion share.

I would add though, I am aware that 'fair' doesn't actually exist and I don't think purses should be based on what a fighter achieves, anyway. If you bring in more money than someone, you deserve more of it. And Fury obviously brings in more money.

But I think 70/30 is pretty steep. It's not far off what a mandatory fighter gets, which is really lowballing a unified and former undisputed champion. But hey ho.

It's extremely rare that I side with Ugo's opinion over Georgie's, but here, I actually do.

Fury is the second biggest star in the sport behind Nelo. Usyk is only known to us hardcores.

    70/30 is pretty logical.

70/30 isnt even close to logical. Maybe 55/45 Fury based on his longevity and following, any discussion beyond 60/40 is straight dodging, simple as that.

I tend to agree with it from a fanbase perspective, which is obviously how it should be looked, but in a sense of what he brings to the table, financially, Usyk being given five percent more than what the average challenger would get is pretty rough IMO.

Fury vs anybody else in boxing wouldn't even do close to the numbers Usyk vs Fury does, and that speaks to what Usyk brings to the table IMO. 70/30 in terms of the fanbase is perfectly reasonable, but the fact Usyk brings the undisputed fight with him, entitles him to a lot more than 30% IMO, because the fact is that Fury isn't getting that kind of money anywhere else.

I don't think any unified champion who holds three titles is only entitled 30% simply due to the fact that the bring the undisputed fight with them. The belts themselves are there to make money, and that should be respected in the split IMO.

But then again, Usyk didn't use his titles as leverage, probably because he knows 30% of 100 million is still 30 fuckin million.

The fact Fury keeps trying to wiggle out of the contract is what should be focused on, not the split IMO.

Fury is bringing in the vast vast vast majority of the revenue and attention to this matchup. 55/45 is too generous for Usyk based on that fact.

This is coming from someone who hopes Usyk beats the shit outta that overrated cokehead.

It's logical when you consider that :-

    * Usyk has nowhere else to go. Fury can fight Joe Palooka, do 30,000 tickets and make £10m. Usyk doesn't even have a home country right now much less a home town.

*The 30% he'll get fighting Fury will dwarf the 90% he gets fighting anybody else. Sure, he'll make money fighting Wilder or Joshua but those fights aren't happening and he'll only demand parity or 60/40 in those fights anyways .

It's not fair, but it is logical..

    70/30 makes perfect sense....

-Fury is the draw, more popular & proven at heavy. Nobody gives a fuck about the Cruiserweight diviosn. Only hardcore fans know Usyk.

Fury could fight Wilder 4th time or Joshua and those fights will generate more money than a fight vs. Usyk. Fury vs Andy Ruiz in the west coast would be HUUGGGEEEE...

Hey Usyk could go challenge the winner of Wilder vs Ruiz winner(if this fight happen). Usyk has no case to want more than 30%...

That's how I view rematch clauses, particularly when it's a big fight. If you want 'insurance' because of the random shit that can happen than your opponent deserves to be afforded the same said insurance for the same reasons.

Rematch clause for both, or no clause at all. What's annoying about it is Fury talks retirement all the time. He could just retire or feign injury if he doesn't want another fight, and even without a clause chances are Usyk would fight him again as it's the biggest money maker for him anyway.
