Is it also ironic Haney struggled and needed the judges help to beat a guy much smaller than him who was also a good bit past his best?

The rounds Loma won were more clear but winning big or narrowly is still 10-9.

Close fight. Big shocker the home town guy got the nod.

I’m sure they’ll take it down soon.

I managed to get a rewatch in before they took it down.

I’m torn between a draw, or a 7-5 win for Loma. A lot of hard rounds to score. I don’t have a problem with it being scored for Haney, but it damn sure wasn’t no 116–112. This fight was razor close imo.

I’m not sure if they’ll do it again. Haney can make bigger money with Tank, or the aforementioned winner of Lopez-Taylor. I don’t see him going near Shakur Stevenson. He can’t win that one.

This...I could see the draw or either guy winning 7-5.

Considering how close it was, surprising the decision was unanimous.

Agree when I heard the unanimous score I thought for sure Loma would get it. I thought Haney might Win but I didn’t think a UD was in range.

At that point i thought it was more likely Haney would get it.

I’m with @whiskey. As soon as I heard UD and then the scores I just knew Haney was getting it.

Same here. Couldnt fathom at least 1 judge not having it for Loma

Probably referring to an undercard fight….

Seems like he's trivializing the impact of a broken nose.

No, He's Referring to Doub's Astute Recommendation of "Breaking/Busting" Haney's Nose, However he Worded It...

Haney was weakened making 135 and im interested to see how his strength and stamina is at 140

That said, the body work haney put in looked promising and was winning him the rounds on the judges cards, but ultimately how did it affect the outcome of the fight? Lomachenko finished stronger winning 2 or 3 of final rounds.

I agree with your outlook for haney moving forward

Take the davis payday first and foremost even though the weight is an issue

    Reed- great pre/post fight analysis!
Thinking back to Haney-Linares.. another one where you sowed doubt about Haney’s ability to walk through the onslaught, especially in the later rounds- a fight where most had completely dismissed Linares as a hired opponent. Then this match.. you’ve got a solid claim to knowing how Devin Haney matches up going into his fights. Agree on the closing comments, 140lb is major trouble for Haney. Oddly enough for an undisputed champion he’s in a really tough place now..

I had it Loma 7-5. Quality fight. I saw it like others. Haney was landing good shots to the body and winning rounds. There were very close rounds too. Loma finished strongly, especially rounds 10 and 11.

Obviously there's Tank & Shakur waiting in the queue but im surprised that there's pretty much no talk of a rematch.

In all honesty, yeah, it is hard for foreigners to get a decision over here. Taylor better be intending to stop Fimo if he wants to win.

Particularly in Vegas where questionable decisions are often taken at face value unless it's heinously bad. If it happened in Texas or New York maybe it might be different. One thing that is for certain if Lomachenko got the decision the talk of a rematch wouldn't be muted.

As a fan i would watch it regardless of where it was held but i can't help but feel the fight would go more or less the same way.

The only bad decision that got major attention was Lewis-Holyfield. Even a superstar like Pacquiao was ripped off and nothing became of it.

The last time I can recall a Brit getting a just decision over here was Brook-Porter. I thought for sure they were gonna rob Kell. I was shocked when they announced him as the winner.

Mind you, this is different than Brook-Porter. Haney-Loma was a close fight. Brook-Porter wasn't.

Loma was better in every facet of the game, ring generalship, foot work, offense, and especially defense. Haney wins more rounds just off of throwing punches?

Haney is lucky Loma isn’t the work-horse he used to be. That guy used to throw punches all night, didn’t rest and didn’t let his opponent rest. There were moments in this fight I thought Loma looked visibly tired, but I thought his defense looked very good again whereas I thought it had slipped in his last few fights.

I'm I wrong in comparing Haney to Corey Spinks. Both mediocre champions with awkward styles and little power that were able to have some degree of success in the higher level. Eventually Haney will be destroyed by a real fighter that's not past his prime IMO. But love him or hate him he keeps on winning. He's consistent.
