It's sad to read about Gehrig. He voluntarily pulled himself out of the Yanks lineup when he sensed something was wrong with him. A modern diva athlete would be blaming everyone else, but Gehrig basically told the manager: "I'm playing like shit, I don't deserve to start." Fuckin guy didn't know he was playing like shit because he was dying.

 

Charles' fall with Lou Gehrig's was awful.

 

I'll be dammed. I didn't know until JUST NOW that Charles died of ALS.

ALS is arguably the worst disease on Earth.

 

Charles lived 7 years with ALS too. I believe that's above average. ALS usually kills you in 3-4 years. Sometimes in only 2 years. Shows that Charles was a tough sonuvabitch.
