Basically a done deal for September 16. Couple of years ago this would have been a superfight. It's not anymore, but I suppose I'll order it, especially if the undercard is decent.
REED Ain't Mad @ the Fight, But It's Additionally MARRED By the Fact Canelo's ONLY Taking It (Against an INACTIVE '60lb'der @ '68, No Less) Because His Greedy, Opportunistic Plans were FOILED By Bivol and Then Badu Jack... & Even w/All That, Canelo Still DIDN'T Want to Fight Benavidez... Canelo's His OWN Worst Enemy These Days and He Can't Get Out of His OWN Way, It Seems...& While Charlo is a LEGIT Opponent, This Certainly ISN'T an Opportune Time for Him to Take a Bout of This Ilk...& Canelo's FULLY Aware of Such... So Yeah, Canelo-Charlo is MARRED Beyond the Inactivity... REED
I like benavidez, but the claim that he deserves a fight against canelo is vastly overstated. What has he done besides beating Plant???
REED Can't Say He'll Be Rooting for Either Guy, Particularly, But a Charlo Victory Would Be HILARIOUS... REED
What Other Supermiddleweight is MORE Deserving of a Shot @ the Undisputed Super Middleweight Title???... You're COOL w/Canelo Neglecting His WBC Mandatory, David Benavidez, For 28 Months and Counting???...If Benavidez Isn't Deserving, NO Supermiddleweight is Deserving... REED
I don't like either one of em, so I don't care who wins or loses. They're both assholes imo. My head heavily favors Canelo due to Charlo's inactivity and the fact that he wasn't looking great in the fight even prior the layoff. A long layoff can be overcome if you're the clearly better fighter, but Charlo just isn't as good as Canelo in the first place, so the layoff really hurts. It'd be a pretty big upset. It's not totally outta the realm of possibility though, and I'd crack up if Canelo lost. But Charlo has everything stacked against him. I think Canelo wins a very clear UD. I wouldn't rule out a stoppage, but Jermall seems to have a decent chin, so I'll give him the respect to say he lasts the distance.
There's no one at 160-168 who is Ezzard Charles in terms of resume. If Bena doesn't deserve it, then who does? Does Charlo deserve it? Ain't fought in over 2 years. Sure as fuck Andrade doesn't deserve it. Wasted his whole career fighting no-hopers and fringe contenders. Who else but Benavidez?
Perhaps Charlo should've accepted the fight years ago when it was initially offered? Canelo just signed a 3 fight deal with the PBC. As everyone knows, they like to keep everything "in house." Who's in the PBC's stable? Charlo, Benavides, Andrade...
Im not saying Benavidez is.not the more deserving smw. But none of these fighters is proven enough that hes indispensable. Yes i would like to see canelo vs bena, but I dont feel its a huge mark on canelo career if he doesn't fight him (at least yet).
A lot if the things people criticize Canelo for, Charlo is an even worse offender. Good fight on paper, though as some already mentionned, cheapened a little bit by Charlo s inactivity. However, I would have preferred to see Benavidez vs Charlo honestly (as the winner would have established himself as a ''must fight'' opponent for Canelo).
Charlo didn't want the Benavidez fight. He knew he wouldn't win, and he knew it would mess up the cash out he's finally secured. Just like Jermall wanted no parts of Danny Jacobs years ago. He's a pussy.
From a revenue maximization standpoint, it makes sense for all parties (except maybe fans) for Canelo to face Charlo and Andrade first. Charlo vs. Bena? Not a big enough pie. Canelo vs. Bena and Charlo? Plenty to go around.
While some may not be thrilled about this fight I am looking forward to it. There was some speculation about his potential move to the cruiserweight division to fight Badou Jack, but Canelo's short and stocky stature makes him a better fit for the 168-pound weight class. Standing at just 5'8" with a compact build, Canelo possesses a lower center of gravity and natural strength that translates well to the super middleweight division. I don't think it's an easy fight for Canelo but at the end, this fight could come down to Charlo's power versus Canelo's craftiness. While Charlo's knockout potential is undeniable, Canelo's defensive acumen and ring generalship might be the deciding factors.
Meh fight. I’ll catch it somewhere at a bar. Canelo made it obvious that he doesn’t want Benavidez. And of course he’s picking on a guy that’s been inactive.
He is winding down his career and wants to make some money and win these last 2 or 3 fights. Fighting Benavidez at this point in his career...I don't think that going home with cartoon lumps on his head and a face like a gargoyle is in his plans.
That would be far and away the biggest upset of 2023. I'd be shocked if Munguia sees the late rounds.
The Other Charlo, Jermell, Has Been Nursing Injuries...Tony Harrison was a Replacement for Charlo in the Tszyu Bout... REED
