    Nevermind. Dewsbury-Hall saves Leicester.

Looks like Rangers are gonna suck this year. No shot of winning over Celtic.

Messi is scoring at will in this league.

Im not celebrating yet: they're pretty much in the position we were 2 years ago with a full team getting overhauled at once, gonna wait until the players know each others names to assess

I seriously think he's still the best player in the world which is nuts

A few good goals punctuating a generally sketchy performance

Rodgers continuing to use Kyogo as a false 9 rather than the more limited/disciplined 9 role Ange asigned to him (ala Haaland). So much so that in the average touch position map from stats bomb he's literally showing up as a second 10 as part of a box midfield and our two wingers are further forward. I won't prejudge it - we did manage 4 goals - but it will tend to leave us a man light in terms of sheer numbers arriving in the box. Almost all top teams basically form a 5 man line when they're attacking now, and they don't have opponents playing a 6-4-0 to try and break down. In terms of the 'average position' formation we've basically swapped a number 9 for a second deep pivot

Yeah we are doomed. It's gonna be a long, depressing season.

Just seen the highlights. Both of his goals were superb. Great match too, to be fair.

Yeah FC Dallas has some good young players, especially Alan Velasco.

Are you gonna try to get tickets to see Messi live this year?

All sold out I believe. Actually I'll check it into for sure this week.

Where I live, I'm about equal driving distance from taking my kid to a Red Bulls game in North Jersey, or taking him to Philadelphia to see a Union game. I'm sure both are completely sold out to see Messi, but I'll look.

So the New York Red Bulls play in Jersey. Do the Union play in Delaware?

They certainly aren't the first "New York" team to play in Jerz.

Watching Copa Libertadores. Probably my favorite tourament to watch, even over the CL.

Flamengo (who isn't playing tonight) is the non-European club I tend to root for.

I think that used to be Zico's team back in the day, although I might be confusing them with Vasco de Gama

You are correct. That was Zico's team. He's still Flamengo's all time leading goal scorer.

Do Newcastle have to go through a Champions League qualifying round or are they straight in?

I get the feeling Man Utd are gonna be really good this year, i could even see them challenging unless City have a ~100 point season. Ten Haag has just about got the guys in to play his his way now, Onana replacing De Gea is gonna be big for them

I can't see it to be honest. I could see them being tough to beat, but they're still not dynamic enough for me to mount a genuine challenge. I haven't been all that impressed with them from what I've seen of their pre-season.

Arsenal are genuine challengers again this year I think, they've bought well. Newcastle perhaps too. I haven't managed to catch any of Liverpool's pre-season matches so really have no idea how they'll do.

The difference between Klopp's Liverpool that pushed City all the way and the Arsenal side of last year, was that Liverpool not only could keep pace in the table, in the head to head matches they believed they could match them and get the win. I got the impression in the Arsenal-City matches last season that Arsenal didn't really think they could beat them. They'll have to get over that mental hurdle to have a serious chance of finishing top. Maybe the Charity Shield win will give them some belief.
