Factoring wages Bayern spending 186 million on a guy who'll be 34 when the contract expires: so with amortization 45 mill per year for a guy who'll average 32 y/o over the spend. Like the German idiom say: too soon old, too late smart.

I think with Arsenal it's less obvious to see where they can make big improvements than with man Utd where the problems seemed more obvious - ie not having a 9 for half the season and trying to build out from the back with players who were toilet at it. And there was only 9 points in it between them last season which seems bridgeable. But i ain't exactly quasimodo over here

There was a time I'd give a fuck about the Caicedo signing. I still say we have defensive problem

    In the meantime.....

Big month for wee Sellik, really. We need to improve this summer. We simply haven't yet. If we can't move a rung or two up the ladder right now, with a 60 million cash balance, a young contracted squad and guaranteed CL fitbaw then might as well shut up shop, really.

Celtic NEED a CL run. It's ironic. People talk about how missing out on the CL can hurt a team but how does being in it as a right almost every year and NEVER PROGRESSING benefit a name or a reputation.?

Simple answer:- it doesn't. It makes you look daft..

Id be delighted with 3rd place and a last 8 Europa run.

The only route to success for Celtic long term is using player trading to up the turnover and thus wage bill. Turn a consistent 20-30m profit and put it right on the wagebill. In the short term european progress is basically marketing to make us more attractive to the young players out there who might come and make that work. A 'champions league run' as in quarter final is years down the line if all that goes maximally well and we can up the wagebill by 50%, the financial gulfs are just miles too big right now.

Not quite....he's decided he wants to live in London. Not our sport anymore. Players rule the roost.

I hear what you're saying but not sure the slow and steady approach is the way to go. It's not that you have to go to maximum risk level and throw all your chips in but I agree with Irish that you have to progress in CL to progress in CL. You mentioned attracting younger players. Making a good run would help a whole lot in that regard. Guaranteed CL football doesn't mean a whole lot when the fine print says guaranteed exit every year.

We have to progress financially to progress in the champions league outside of fluke/outlier results & thats a multiyear project if its possible at all. I think we could spend every penny we have this year and itd only take our chances of a last 16 place this year from ~15% to 35% & just leave us worse off 3 years down the line

That said: to me the way of progressing financially is to scale-up the player trading model so that you go from signing 21 year olds averaging £3m & earning x per week to young guys averaging £6m, earning 2x per week and trying to up the profits on those trades by selling better players and selling more aggressively when guys are at peak value. Celtic's niche is as a stepping stone to the premiership, we need to optimize within that shitty reality. So i do agree we need to begin to push the boat out by spending more money on better players, but just with that longer term time horizon in mind so the increased spending can be sustained

It's not even that he's so big and strong. It's that PLUS the fact that he's lightning fast and athletic at that size. You add his skill level to that, and yeah, ain't a whole helluva lot a defender can do.

Instead of a transfer fee Dortmund should have made the deal that they get a million poonds for every goal Haaland scores.

Do British scales have "stone" on them for a measurement option?

Yeah it's kind of unfair. With his athletic ability you would think OK, he can outrun and outgun opponents. Just live with it. Adding the instincts and deft touch is on a level of being unrealstic.

    Thanks.

Why is it that way for you?? One too many trips to King Street?

Identify the issue, eliminate it. That's my philosophy.

What I started doing again recently was wearing clothes that were a half a size too small. Makes you constantly aware of the issue... :Jest:

    It's Chinese, I just divide by 14.

Not gonna BS, but years of following boxing has me knowing, by heart, what any given measurement is in stone.

168lb (Super Middle) is 12 stone, 154 (light middle) is 11 stone, 11 stone 6 is middle (154) etc etc.
