Agreed. It's not just him per se, its him plus the whole background affairs etc.

I always thought I'd be happy if United ever found themselves where Liverpool and Benitez were circa 2010.

They're there now, albeit after a spending spree that would hairlip Jeff Bezos.

Sancho lashing out. Neville working his little mushroom off for the Qataris. 4 points from 12..... retreads like Evans getting called back to plug gaps.

But I could not care less. I guess it was different back then..

Benitez worst year bat none was 2009/2010 and I think Liverpool finished 6th with none of what Ten Hag has spent.

Maybe it's a paper tiger but that whole City Group infrastructure seems increasingly formidable with or without Guardiola, a thousand odd global scouts, football data nerds, feeder clubs all playing the same playing style under top-down direction

If you've never been to those three grounds, then sorry, you're not a "fan" of any of them.

Awww. Are you butt hurt now because I questioned you in the "Punchers Born or Made" thread 15 mins ago? You must be, because the timing is too convenient.

    You sad little man.

I've never in my life been a die hard devotee to ANY team in ANY sport. Would never claim to be. I was never even a die hard Knicks fan in the 90s, and I grew up with them and attended many a game. I already said in a separate thread last week that sporting passion is a peak level in your youth. So how on Earth could I develop into a diehard of any team now when it wasn't even in me when I was young?

But yeah, sure, lemme go fly across the fucking Atlantic next month and hit up Anfield to prove to you I "like" Liverpool. Like being the quoted and operative word. Not that I'd sacrifice my unborn for them.

    Fuckin weirdo.

Why stop at 3 clubs as your favorite? Why not 5? Why not 7?

Sounds like Antony is so shit as a player because he's aspiring to be the next Floyd Mayweather and Tank Davis instead of the next Brazilian great.

I haven't been following the whole situation to be honest but either way, if Sancho is forced out at Man U it may be a blessing in disguise. He's a talented kid and United are a stagnant club going nowhere right now. I'm sure he could be a success at an Arsenal, Newcastle, or a team like that with a clear identity.

That's the thing, be careful what platitudes you throw out if you're not too bothered but still enjoying the positive PR from different sources...the same platform will come back to bite you when you're forced to volte face when the money calls

Agreed. Haven't followed closely and even if you do it's not like you can really know the true situation. That said I agree on Sancho because of so many good/great players going to Man United and being poor by their own standards, not just expectations. Pogba, Depay, Di Maria, Kagawa, Maguire, Blind, Schneiderlin, Van den Beek ... to name a few.

So all those guys were overrated or "couldn't handle the pace of the EPL" (even if they transferred from another EPL side lol) or is it maybe that the club they went to is at fault? Anybody believe that list of players and various others would have had the same results if they went to other top side(s) first? That suggest to me it's not the individuals. (at least not all of them) .

Yep. Take Di Maria for example, played great again once he left and was a key player in Argentina's World Cup win. There is something toxic about Man U at the moment and they've lost their identity in terms of how they play. It's been a decade now since Ferguson retired and it's like they're still trying to work out who they are.

They'll still be formidable without Guardiola, but more catchable.

I was thinking about this the other day. When Ferguson's Man U were the dominant team, I reckon you needed an end of season points tally of between 80 or 90 to genuinely challenge them. Mourinho's first stint at Chelsea would have been around 85 to 90. Guardiola's City is between 95-100, which is crazy. I reckon when he leaves it will go back to around 85-90.

Under Ferguson, especially the last 2 years, they were shit, but people were afraid of them and rolled over like pussies. They ran on fear and reputation rather than any actual talent......once Ferguson left, once David Gill was out, once the Fergie mafia all moved on or lost their jobs (Hughes,Allardyce,Bruce) they were done.

They've got better players now (and 8n 2025,2016 etc) than they had a certain junctures of Fergies tenure but nobody is afraid of them at all.

You look at some of the beatings dished out to them in the last few years of Fergies tenure right up to the present day.... There's a lot of 4s,5s,6s and 7s there..
