Be a miracle if Celtic got something out of this after that penalty miss.

There is something remarkably fucking baffling about how Celtic lose in Europe. Not that they lose, but how.

Good result for Newcastle away from home against last year's CL semi finalists. Like Feebs said, the home form will be key.

Liverpool in 2005 were great in Europe and horrible in our domestic league. We played teams as good as this version of Bayern. Teams like Juventus and Chelsea. Beat them.

Finished 5th in the league. A much weaker league than today.

So United could turn it around but it's a big big ask.

Here's how its done: go into the champions league playing a mediocre 36 year old goalkeeper you shouldve replaced 5 windows ago. He concedes a soft goal, piling pressure on the 20 year olds with zero experience you're having to play because you cheaped out on bringing in any reliable quality. They both get themselves sent off. And you're fucked

Worst thing is, Feyenoord looked almost exactly as mediocre as us - precisely the type of team we could be finishing above if we'd just made the two or three solid signings everybody was screaming for. Its small moments that decide games like that & games like that which swing progressing & not progressing. Meanwhile the board announce a £40m profit this week taking our cash reserves to £90m. Should have stacked it up in 50s, played it in goals.

Pretty much. It went from 0-0 at half time and a real chance to get something to total chaos in the space of a few moments

    In the meantime.....

I had the whole house free yesterday and every game and plumped for Newcastle and Celtic.

Very identical situations, but Newcastle had that thin edge on quality in key positions (eg Trippier ) to see it out and even maybe win.

Celtic, as you say, had key vulnerabilities that cost them..

Ronnie knows the game and have cars - ive drawn the same conclusion already. Ironically i see more potential in the two kids who got sent off, they're just greener than the hoops

But you're right in the choas thing. Its because we never face adversity so when it hits we melt - time & time again we lose a goal in a tight game and the second comes within minutes, then often a third.

Thats probably an in-built we'll always struggle with. Otoh not signing the 3 or 4 quality starters who would've improved this 11 over the summer is unforgivable

I think the edge in quality between Celtic and Newcastle is currently pretty phat. Of yesterdays starting 11 only Alistair Johnston, Matt O'Riley & Kyogo would 'belong' in the premiership. A guy like Maeda could be a useful squad member in the right system, based soley on his insane pressing/yardage. The rest dont cut mustard (Carter Vickers would when fit).

No I didn't mean NUFC Vs Celtic I meant NUFC Vs Milan.....NUFC had just enough quality to not get hurt the way Celtic were.

That Bayern defence is pretty shaky, Man U could have drawn or better despite being completely dominated
