Fight week. I can't bring myself to be all that excited for this one. I've tried, its just not a super compelling matchup for me. However, I'm gonna order, because the undercard is decent enough and because there's nothing else to do this Saturday night.

I've got Ginger by UD. A late stoppage wouldn't surprise me, but I'll say Charlo lasts the distance because Canelo has slipped.

I doubt Canelo has slipped far enough to actually lose though. Both Charlos are very limited fighters. Hard to see Jermell winning. It would require Canelo turning washed up in there.

I don't think the buys are gonna be all that impressive btw.

Compared to other PPVs this year, I think this will outsell Benavidez-Plant, but won't sell as much as Davis-Garcia or Spence-Crawford.

Canelo's star power just isn't what it once was.

The only two Canelo matchups that would do big PPV numbers now are Canelo-Bena or Canelo-Crawford.

I definitely predict Canelo wins. But what's weird is, I feel inclined to root for Charlo. I figured out - when it comes to matchups like these, I'm always going to be anti-establishment. Whichever opponent stands to upset the applecart is the one I generally root for, the exception being when a favorite of mine is fighting (neither Canelo nor Charlo are favorites of mine).

I dislike both equally, so no dog in the fight.

I'd take pleasure in seeing either lose.

I doubt Alvarez benavidez does considerably more than Saturdays ppv

The charlo name and twin novelty makes them more well known than benavidez in my opinion

I guarantee you Alvarez-Benavidez would do far more buys than Saturday will.

No one gives a shit about the Charlos. They might have heard the name, but the problem is, the Charlos have zero fan base. None. No one gives a fuck about em. No one likes them.

Paired with Canelo, the Mexican vs Mexican American angle will drive strong sales in the Latin community.

Charlo doesn't have a fanbase even among Blacks.

Yeah I’m thinking Canelo via UD. I don’t think Jermell will have the power to keep him off. Canelo is slipping but I’m not convinced he’s slipped enough to lose to Charlo.

Thankfully where I’m at I can watch the fight for free on tv. It’s a fight that could be entertaining but I expect Canelo win rather convincingly unless he gets shot over night. The undercard is also good so I’m excited to check them out as well.

Im actually pretty into this one, i dont think the two division difference is really gonna show up in the ring and the styles should make for action. Expecting Canelo to win but im looking forward to seeing how. I'll say TKO 11 but im always wrong

Agreed, I don't see the weight as a big factor here. A bit like RJ at 175, Canelo is obviously fighting above his optimal weight.

Yeah. Although watching Roy, then Pac & Floyd, now Canelo be so dominant at weights where they're always the smaller man, you begin to wonder if cutting then coming in big is really such an advantage when you add the minuses

Roy was never a fucking weight cheat gaining 20+ pounds between the weigh-in and fight night.

168 is very much Canelo's optimal division.

I think I'm actually rooting for Charlo. It has nothing to do with me liking Charlo. It's because if Charlo wins, it'll look all the more impressive when Bud kicks his ass all over the ring.

    Head still says Canelo though.

I find charlo one of the the most unlikable mf in the sport, hoping canelo minces him

Agreed, I tried to like the Charlo bros but I just can't as they just seemed to childish and disrespectful, starting meaningless shit all the time. Jermell seems a lot more chill for this fight though and he claims that it's because his ''rowdy ass brother'' is not around, so Jermall might be the problem.

Both twins are hateful. I purely want Bud's win to look better.

Make no mistake, Charlo is ONLY winning this fight if Canelo is shot.

If Canelo can muster even close to Saunders/Plant level, Charlo has no chance.

I don't even rate the twins as high as Plant. Jermell got outboxed by Tony Harrison for Christ sake.

charlo is smaller than plant but much better and more proven. if he werent moving up 2 divisions Id consider this a legit fight.

who the fuck has plant ever beat? uzcategui, dirrell and truax are his top 3 wins?

Yeah, I don't consider the size difference a major factor. If you take a close look, Charlo has an advantage in height and reach. Canelo started at 147 pounds. I'm not picking Charlo, but we've seen fighters move up two weight classes and pull off significant upsets before. Mosley had a fight against Rivera before facing De La Hoya, but essentially he was viewed as the smaller guy in that fight. Being the smaller guy could actually fit into Charlo's game plan, as he's used to faster opponents. Having said that Charlo looked pudgy at the weigh in and Canelo looked ripped. I'll take Canelo by UD.

The difference is, charlo generally enjoyed a size advantage at 154. Clearly here he will not.

Watching Charlo interviews, the guy doesn't sound confident at all. Giving Canelo waaayyyy too much respect; the classic sign of a guy who's showing up for a payday.

has there been a guy in the last 40 or 50 years who was considered a superstar and the biggest attraction in boxing who has fought a stretch of whites comparable to alvarez has? 11 of his last 13 opponents have been white.
