Thought GGG won the second fight when I watched it live. Re-scored it again during lockdown and still had him winning. It was actually a fairly easy fight to score from what I remember, the rounds all had clear victors and no 50-50 "swing" rounds. GGG just won more of them. As I've said before, I'm not a big fan of either guy so can't be arsed arguing with anyone who scored it the other way.

I had both GGG fights a draw, never bothered to watch the third fight.

i posed the question to the alvarez fans. so i figured texmex would give his answer on which 5 fights he considered the most impressive victories of the guys career.

i agree with reed. i rank the golovkin rematch as the top fight of alvarez career. i also thought he lost narrowly, but it was close enough to where you could give him the victory. it was certainly the most entertaining fight of his career. dont know how you could say it 'wasnt a fun fight at all'?

To each his own. I didn't find the rematch all that entertaining.

The first fight was a letdown as well.

Like George, I've never seen the third fight. Don't imagine I ever will.

For me, I guess the Saunders and Plant fights were Canelo's two best performances. While neither BJS nor Plant is great, they are both solid technicians and they came in undefeated. The fact that Canelo broke them down and took them out violently was impressive.

Almost every fighter has experienced such fights - Leonard-Hagler, Ali-Norton, Trinidad-DLH, you name it. Yet, at the end of the day the judges gave them the nod. It's obvious double standards come into play when assessing Canelo, almost as if he's held to a higher standard than his peers. Take for instance the recurring pattern of downplaying his wins. Kovalev was dismissed as past his prime, GGG deemed too old, Charlo labeled as too small, and Callum Smith labeled as a mere "bum" and so forth. Meanwhile my man Spence Jr. was ejected from a car at speeds exceeding 100 mph and a detached retina injury before his showdown with Crawford but that was never mentioned. Nobody questions Crawford #1p4p ranking or is saying Spence was not 100%...ofcourse they wouldn't he's not Canelo.

The first fight was an exciting fight. The decision was a let-down but the fight itself was good.

Canelo’s best performance was probably the Plant fight, I’d say. Not that I rate Caleb highly or anything, but the way he broke him down was impressive.

To X’s point, I also have always been one of those guys that never found the WOW factor with Canelo. He’s a very good fighter. But I don’t think he would have beaten the true greats of 154, 160, or 168. He’s one of those guys who is an example of an overachiever. Match making played a part along with some suspect score cards. Not to mention the 155 lb Canelo weight. Dude even had his own weight class for a bit. Lol. But nonetheless, he’s a really good fighter. I lmao at the fact that Money May appears to be so jealous and envious of him.

No…selective memory in ur part, people here mention Spence car accident and eye injury before & particularly after the fight.

Canelo hasn’t fought anyone as good/well regarded as Spence since the first GGG fight. Both Bud and Canelo went into a 50/50, 60/40 fight…Bud dominated while Canelo just barely won/lose/draw…afterward Canelo went on this carefully picked opponent marathon.

Money May is the worse…he can’t talk without reminding everyone how great he is…he praises Bud, Tank, random fighters then the next sentence..”you know Floyd did it first” “you know he’s a great fighter he learn from Floyd”, “yeah Tank v Ryan did great, you know I’m the PPV king”, etc..

It's interesting to hear your perspective. A good fighter? How generous of you lol. The fact is...in most people's opinion Canelo is undoubtedly a great fighter. Not good, not very good but great. While I respect your viewpoint, in my opinion Canelo stands as one of the greatest boxers, possibly even surpassing the legacy of any Puerto Rican fighter in history. But hey, it's all a matter of personal preference.;) :crafty:

Ok so who's surpassed Canelo in terms of greatness? Name 3? And give your reasons. I'm dead serious and I'll rip your argument to shreds. It cracks me up how mad you and Reed are Canelo beat Charlo. Y'all turned racist in literally minutes. Lmao

Are you fucking retarded? Dont answer that question, I know the answer is yes, which explains why you need AI assistance to sound half-way intelligent.

You're really gonna race-bait over this? I detest Charlo. Moreso than I do Canelo. I find it hilarious that Charlo went out like a bitch. I'm not mad, I don't care. I don't care enough that I didn't even bother watching the fight. But when I woke up at 1am last Sunday, and read that Charlo got shut out without trying, I literally laughed. That let's you know how "mad" I was.

You're projecting is what you are. Neither REED nor myself have ANY history of being anti-Mexican fighter. If anything, one thing REED and I have in common: We're as CRITICAL/harsh on Black fighters as any Black posters ever have been. Any Fightbeat posters can vouch for these two points being accurate.

You, conversely, clearly do have a race problem, as you inject it into each and every thread. You do an extremely poor job of hiding the fact that you're anti-Black and Puerto Rican fighter, while you shamelessly pole smoke any Mexican.

To the point at hand: Canelo has no logical argument over Ortiz or Gomez in a historical sense. You could make a STRETCH argument for Benitez and Trinidad, but i dont see it. Those two were true greats, and those two have decisive/dominant wins over top opposition with no judging/cherry picking controversies involved.

But if you think Canelo is on par with Ortiz or Gomez, in terms of greatness or quality, you belong in a Facebook group, not a serious boxing forum.

Canelo is not a top 10 all timer in any division he's ever competed in, with the exception being you might be able to squeeze him into the lower tier of the all time 168 ratings IF he beats Benavidez; which would involve him actually growing the stones to face Benavidez. But that fact, that he doesn't register all time in any division he's competed in, renders his "greater than any Puerto Rican" argument comical.

Canelo is a MANUFACTURED great. I don't give a shit how many weight classes he cherry picks titles from, he's not an all time great.

He's closer to Cotto level than he is to a Ortiz/Gomez/Benitez.

Canelo fans need to first worry about the fact that Canelo doesn't stack up to guys in his own nationality.

Chavez is top 3 all time at both 130 & 140.

Olivares is top 3 all time at Bantam.

Sanchez & Saldivar are both top 5-10 all time featherweights.

Canto is top 3 all time at flyweight.

Canelo's cherry picking across 4 divisions is far LESS impressive than the above standings, especially in the modern era when obtaining belts at multiple weight classes has become far more commonplace.

    Lemme say it again...

    Manufactured all time great.

This guy argues that Canelo is potentially greater than Carlos Ortiz, and he's underrated?

Underrated on this forum is any great pre-1980s.

This forum has become a hub of recency bias.

Canelo is GREAT…but he’s not all time great.

all time great who have retired in the last 3-6 years…FLOYD & Pacquiao….Canelo is not in that level.

    REED Rates Canelo Properly...

ANY Fighter Who's ATOP Boxing's Lb for Lb List for an Appreciable Stretch of Time is an Undeniably GREAT Fighter in REED's Opinion...Canelo Qualifies...

The Canelo Cheerleaders were Conveniently ABSENT When REED Argued AGAINST Those Stating Canelo Was as GOOD as He'd EVER Be, After Losing to Floyd...They Also Conveniently MISSED When REED Defended Canelo's Catchweight Offer to Triple G (Who Refused) and Subsequent Bouts w/Liam Smith, Amir Khan and Chavez Jr in the Meantime...

With the Gift of Hindsight, REED Can Acknowledge Canelo STALLED the Triple G Bout for as Loooooooooooong as He Could...But Now That REED is Pointing Out Canelo OBVIOUSLY Stalling/Flat Out NEGLECTING a Benavidez Bout, REED's Lumped w/the Haters...

Canelo's rated correctly on here. He's a First Ballot HOFmer, and deservedly so.

But don't gimme the underrated talk, when this guy is one here calling Canelo greater than any PR legend, and once saying that Canelo could beat a prime Jones.

Glad YOU Addressed that Clown 1st....Saves REED Time/Energy from Dealing w/Boxing IDIOCY...
YOU & REED Definitely Keep it 100 in Regards to Black Fighters; We LOVE Our Black Fighters, But You Gotta Bring MORE Than Merely BLACKNESS to the Table:Dont:...If You CAN'T Fight, Sit Your BLACK Ass Over There :emoji_point_right: as Boxing's Being Discussed...Simple As...

What's Particularly Funny is THIS Dude Actually COMPLIMENTED REED on Keeping Race OUT of His Video's, Yet the 1st Time Canelo is (Rightfully) Criticized, it HAS to Be Because of Race???:duck:...& Nevermind the FACT REED Predicted Canelo by Late KO, Somehow REED's Actually MAD Canelo Dominated Charlo???...Make It MAKE Sense???:Dont:....

Do SOME Fans Feel SOME Type of Way About Canelo BECAUSE of His Ethnicity? ABSOfuckingLUTELY...But That's NO Different Than SOME Fans Loathing Prince Naseem Because He was ARAB, SOME Fans ASSuming Every Good Modern Day/Crossover ASIAN Fighter Needs to Be Tested for PED's, etc...ELITE Level Fighters WILL Be Criticized - White, Black or Otherwise; NO RACE of Fighter is Exempt, Sorry...

& Fightbeat, Despite its LOW Traffic, Provides SUBSTANTIVE Critiques of Fighters, More Times Than Not...The New Kid on the Block Simply FAILS to Realize He's in the MAJOR LEAGUES of Boxing Talk Now; This AIN'T EastSide...

Just want to address a couple of points regarding Explosive and Reed. First and foremost I want to clarify that I have nothing against neither of these guys on a personal level. I don't really know them beyond our interactions in this boxing forum. Life outside of this cyber arena keeps me occupied and I don't take things said here too seriously. My second point on those who labeled me a troll. Wtf? I mean I do I engage in some light-hearted banter from time to time, but I'm not here for that.

As far as me being Canelo nutthugger. Its obvious he gets a fair share of criticism in this forum. That's no secret. I won't say any names but some folks here merely label him as a "good" fighter which in my opinion, doesn't do justice to his skills. I say he's not just good. he's great, and we should recognize that. Whoever thinks Canelo is not great is just being hater plain and simple.

On me accusing Reed and explosive of being racist. I do want to apologize to them. Deep down I don't believe that this forum harbors racism. If I'm honest I do see a community of knowledgeable boxing fans here. That's why I enjoy being part of this forum.

And to clarify on my boxing knowledge. It seems like everyone is trying to take a stab at my lack of "boxing IQ". The truth is I've been a fan since I was a kid thanks to my step-dad who introduced me to the sport through his classic vhs tape collecting of fighters like Mike Tyson, Julio Cesar Chavez, and Muhammad Ali.

While I do consider myself a big boxing-buff, I understand that in life just like with anything else there's always someone who knows more or is better at trivia than you. I'm here to learn, watch fights, and engage in cool conversations. Again I never claimed to be the most knowledgeable person in this forum so there's no need for comparisons. Please stop that shit it's childish and annoying. I'm all for keeping peaceful and friendly discussions going. That's all I wanted to say. No hard feelings towards any of you.

Bro, you come across as being bipolar, or in general it seems you have some type of mental problem.

This was very much a tame thread until YOU started race-baiting. No one else. YOU! So please spare us this passive aggressive "you guys are being childish and annoying" bullshit. You are the ONLY poster who started controversy in this thread. Don't whine and play dumb now that you're getting your ass handed to you.

As Kurt Russell said in Tombstone, "You called down the thunder, well now you've got it."

Oh, and I guess I'll be waiting for quite awhile for you to "tear my argument to shreds" as you claimed you were going to. I named 3 Puerto Rican greats. Still waiting, and I'll keep waiting, because you wouldn't know Carlos Ortiz from Big Papi Ortiz.

Go talk boxing on Facebook. This place is outta your league.
