I don't mean "pound for pound" boxer, I mean who is the best "PLODDING 4ORWARD PONDEROUSLY" (P4P) boxer right now? Many contenders, but there can only be one....
Off the top of my head; Canelo - a great boxer yes, but now he has become a ponderous plodder. Ngannou- will probably be a contender for No.1 P4P for sure Spence - against Crawford, he was plodding forward ponderously a lot. Kambosos - a hippety hoppity fast hands type of ponderous forward plodder (could be a new category stay tuned) Haney - Against Loma, there were periods where all he did was plod forward ponderously, right into Loma's punches. Benevidez - Probably a fringe plod contender at this stage.
Canelo. I mean, unless you ask BoxingFan. He would have you believe that Canelo has 8 different dimensions to his game.
As much as I criticize Trinidad for being a one dimensional plodder( see Trinidad vs Hopkins,DLH) they make for exciting fights. Win or lose they won't run ala Twinkle Toes/slick southpaws or whatever. From a boxing fan point of view I love them. But if you get a guy like Pernell who wins a round without throwing a single punch it's the cure for insomnia.
Joyce is like a crab looking up at fish....how're those motherfuckers flying? Dimensions he can't process
Oh come on. I was being facetious. Everyone knows the Willie Pep no punches thrown thing is a myth. Just a rumor Max Kellerman started. He always had a hard on for slick southpaws.
The story is much older than Kellerman. Theoretically it would be possible to win a round under the official rules, but so far it has never happened
Almost positive that Bert Sugar is the one who created and perpetuated the "Pep won a round without throwing a punch" myth. Sugar repeated the myth so many times that many started believing it actually happened.
But he isn't. He's exactly as good or as bad as he lets himself be. Right now he's bad. Next time he might be bad. Or very good.
