Bowe is very live against '83 Holmes. A case could be made both ways. I have always picked Pryor clearly over Chavez. But damn what a fight it would be. Norris outjabs Hearns and eeks out a close safety-first decision
agREED On Holmes-Bowe & Chavez-Pryor... REED Can't See Norris Going 12-15 Rounds WITHOUT Tasting Hearns' Right Hand at Some Point Though...Hearns MIGHT Even Be Behind on the Cards and Would Be Visibly Hurt (Possibly Dropped) @ Some Point, But He STOPS Norris Eventually...Rare When Hearns Has a BETTER Chin Than His Opponent, But That Would Be the Case vs. Norris.... REED
The other two case could be made for either and chances are they would both warrant rematches. I don't see how Taylor is going beat Hearns even on a good day.
Hearns would annihilate Norris inside of 2. Prime-for-prime Bowe gives Holmes a tough fight, but Holmes having the vastly better brain would be the difference. Assuming it's a 15 rounder, Larry wins either 10-5 or 9-6. Agreed with all that Pryor beats Chavez.
Hard to say. Pryor basically jumped directly from 135 to 140 and destroyed Cervantes. A washed up Cervantes, but still. By 1980, Aaron was the finished article. He just figures to be too dynamic and strong for Chavez. It'd be a war for the ages though. The best mythical matchup to be made in the history of 140.
I don't think it's even fair to match Norris with a prime Hearns or prime Leonard. He wasn't on the same level as either. A more arguable matchup is 91-92 Norris vs 84-85 Curry.
I miss KO mag, you can't even get Ring here any more Pryor Holmes Hearns Toney-Hagler would've been a good scrap but i guess James had just moved to 168 by 93
I used to read KO and Ring and all the others. And to this day, it's the only magazines I ever read cover to cover. I remember at that time I was just starving for boxing content.
My room was covered in the old ko magazine centrefold posters. I've still got the Erik morales one up in the spare room/gym.
I used to get KO, Boxing Monthly and Boxing News on subscription back in the day. I even wrote to Claude Abrams asking for a job when I was an unemployed stoner bum, in fairness to him he actually replied and very politely said no.
I used to buy every issue of Boxing Monthly after '95. It was excellent. I also read The Ring regularly, but it sucked that their news were like three months old. We couldn't get KO here but I read it from time to time outlands
REED Knew He was GAY for Boxing When, as a Teen, His Bedroom Walls Consisted of More KO Mag Centerfolds Than Bikini Model Centerfolds... REED
Agreed, I like Norris style but can't see at all how he'd manage to outjab Hearns, one if the best jabber in boxing history... His only chance imo is to make it a firefight and catch Hearns before he gets catch himself (slim odds imo however)
Those were the days when we looked forward to our monthly boxing fix. I had a couple of subscriptions. I had the ring for sure and maybe ko or boxing digest(sp) I can't remember. You seem to have a good memory which magazine had the mail bag. The Baggaroni?
I'm not sure. But I definitely remember that column. I used to get pissed at that guy for spouting nothing but traditional wisdom and promoter propaganda.
World Boxing IIRC. It wasn't a mail bag though but a column by some dude named James Bagg. He was pretty funny
