Random as Hell. Just acknowledging a Jeff Chandler fight, since Jeff is one of the more forgotten of the 80s greats. As far as little guys in the 80s, Chandler gets overshadowed by guys like Sanchez, Gomez, and Pedroza. And while Jeff wasn't as great as those three, he was a great fighter. I've seen all his title defenses, and I'd say the Carter fight was his sharpest performance. Enjoy:
Chandler was what I'd categorize as a boxer-puncher, but although he had good power (particularly in his right cross) he didn't have the devastating power of a Gomez, Olivares, or Inoue. He was just a solid overall offensive fighter with excellent technical skills, and he had a solid (not granite, but solid) chin. I see a lot in Chandler's offensive game that Hopkins molded his style off of, which is understandable considering Chandler was a Philly fighter.
No matter how much you suck up to former members they ain't comin back! Whats next, a gato figueroa post ?
Very underrated fighter and terrific skills, always enjoy watching his fights. He was a sublime technician and it's crazy to think that Chandler started boxing at age 19. Jeff Chandler vs Lupe Pintor is still one of the biggest missed opportunities at the lower weights. That would have been fun.
I'm still back and forth on it, it could have gone either way. Either Chandler by decision or Pintor by stoppage. Chandler had quicker combinations while Pintor had the better body attack.
It would have been a great BW scrap that could have been a memorable rivalry. A real shame that they couldn’t make that fight happen. A win over one another would have really helped elevated both of their greatness.
I think Pintor would probably do better, as they'd likely both end up on the ropes a lot, and Pintor was a lot better there.
