Yep. Alexander, Farnell, Elcock, Takaloo, Roberts, Williams, Samuels etc. Fun times. None were world class and all flawed, though I still say to this day that Alexander had legit world class punching power. Williams also dropped Sergio Martinez twice before Martinez was known.
Bernard Dunne was exposed by Kiko Martinez. Dunne was like Amir Khan, people were being fed a load of shit about how Bernard was basically sparring with Shane and Manny in LA and was ready to be the next McGuigan. He fought a little Ukrainian who sat him down on the bottom rope and i knew his chin was garbage then. But they never called it. So on he went. Martinez knew Dunne was paper so he told his family to throw £££ on him destroying Dunne early, which he duly did.
Dont forget the midges.... Bobby Vanzie, Michael Brodie, Michael Gomez, Scott Harrison, McCullough, Ingle....
Dunne was a tidy little boxer, fun to watch. He did have a papier mache chin though, was obviously going to hold him back. The Cordoba fight is one of my favourites though.
Loved Vanzie. The Murray fight was an epic domestic battle. Gomez was actually pretty good. I hated him at the time but he could fight. Harrison, McCullough and Ingle were all world class, the lower tier of world class, but world class all the same.
In most cases, I'd agree the story was made up. But Lance Whittaker is undoubtedly a physical specimen and would catch the eyes of any trainer.
