I pick haney in a stinky fight but hope I'm wrong

His speed l, particularly of foot, should be the deciding factor

I think Haney will win 9-3 or 8-4.

Hope like Hell I'm wrong. Hope Regis wastes him.

However, I'm pretty confident in my Haney pick.

Haney via UD. I think he’ll be a step ahead of Regis all night. Hope I’m wrong.

Not sure why everyone is so high on haney, who should be no more than -250 favorite

The Regis of a few years would beat the piss outta Loma. Not because he's a better fighter, but he's too big and strong for Loma.

What has Loma ever done at 140? He's never even fought at 140. He's small at 135.

Taylor would beat the living fuck out of Lomachenko.

We are talking about the same Lomachenko who lost to Orlando fucking Salido?

Wasn't it on his 3rd pro fight? Then beat him in the rematch. And salido is no push over.

Literally everything you just said was wrong.

It was his second, there was no rematch, and Salido by that point of his career was an absolute pushover. Every featherweight of note that he ever fought beat him.

My point was naming random people someone loses to means nothing.

Haney most likely wins this by decision but I'm hoping that they at least make this an entertaining fight. Prograis would have to really dig deep and give Haney hell but I'm not sure if he's able to give him the same kind of trouble that Loma did.

One question this fight might answer: Is Haney's chin really dodgy? Or was the weight at 135 hurting his punch resistance?

Regis should answer that question for us.

Regis needs to sell out and also be prepared to fight out of the clinch and deny the stop-start pattern stinkers like Haney thrive on.

He needs to worry about closing the distance before he can do any of that.

He has three things working against him:

    1. His attacking footwork is ponderous and predictable.

    2. His head and upperbody movement is VERY predictable.

    2. He has short arms.

Haney should be able to time him pretty easily with his jab, and step around him all night.

Agree. Part of selling out will be nearly reckless aggression and closing the distance.

Agreed. Unless Prograis pulled off the biggest con in boxing history by intentionally looking like he was garbage in his last fight, then I think this is a textbook decision that is very easy to call.

The guy who was railroading Loma earlier in the thread for losing to Salido is a bit harsh since it was one of his first fights as a pro and Salido was dirty af. No doubt Loma of a couple of fights later would have wiped his ass with Salido. I think Taylor is pretty overrated too. Loma would be the better boxer but size would probably be a factor. Haney seems like he's growing anyway. He's 25, Loma is 35. Haney seems like the guy who can grow into 140 and possibly 147, to the point where in a couple of years we would just think he's a bit too big for Loma now, the same way you'd think Taylor is now. It's hard to accurately read these kinds of things because y0u have to adjust and reassess the fighters. Put it this way, Loma would outclass Taylor if they were the same size. Taylor just made Teo look p4p. Possibly also made Prograis look like an elite fighter too. The fight between Prograis and Taylor might have been overrated in terms of the talent of the two and since it was a fight for all the marbles at 140 it got hyped as this fight between super talented guys.

I feel the same way about Fury and Wilder. Wilder is legit garbage who loses on the cards to the likes of Washington, Molina etc and pulls off one punch to get out of jail. Fury is simply overrated af and I'd expect any elite heavyweight to get Wilder out of there pretty easily. Like imagine Holmes vs Wilder. But because they were seen to be fighting for the lineal championship the actual talent of the guys got overhyped. I'm totally expecting the bland Parker to beat Wilder. I'm also expecting Wallin to beat AJ and Usyk to beat Fury. I'm putting my money where my mouth is at the sportsbooks on those too.

Back to the topic, I thought Loma did beat Haney. I see Haney as a flawed fighter in many respects also. He's got Prograis number though, unless we all got conned by Prograis intentionally making himself look like shit to get a big fight. It's possible. But unlikely.

As much as this is a good match up on paper I don't expect this fight to be mildly entertaining. Here's hoping Prograis makes this a fight and forces Haney to start trading more.

apparently this fight sold out the warriors arena. ward wasnt able to do that at the old oracle in oakland, even after winning the super six shit.

what exactly is the appeal to haney? he isnt particularly charismatic or interesting with what he says, he isnt exciting in the ring. he didnt decisively win his first major fight, more fans thought he lost.

davis is popular because he knocks motherfuckers out, garcia has teen age girls on social media who watch him. what the fuck is it about haney?

The appeal is that he's more "Hip Hop" than Ward was. He's very popular in the young Hip Hop community, something Dre never was.

He isn't even a tiny fraction as good as Ward though.
