Let's be honest the Micky Ward and Gatti trilogy got so much attention because they were two white boys. I think Morales vs Barrera wars were just as brutal at a much higher skill level at around that time and they didn't get a fraction of the media attention as Ward vs Gatti. So yeah I'd say the Rudy name fits perfectly. Having said that I enjoyed Gatti vs Ward as much as the next man but HBO specially Larry and Jim were very CRINGEY. When they turned the TV screen black and white I was like "oh hell nah".

Morales vs. Barrera got a lot of attention. Maybe not as much as Gatti/Ward. But still enough for both sequels to be successful PPV.

I'm not saying you didn't also think of it but the Hamed haters including me were typing "WBOgus" on Princenaseem.com message board way back in '97. I think a poster named Maddog had started it there. One of the regulars there, Simon Harrison, is the guy who started boxingpress which later became secondsout so about half of us made the jump over.

Jesus H, I was 25 when I started posting on boxing message boards (they weren't even forums back then.) I am 51 now. I wasted over half my life on this shit.

Ward Vs Gatti was much more visceral and it helps that both guys were so defensively lax that the impact of the punches could not be disguised.

I don't know if this is true because I'm not from Europe and never lived there. But apparently it's not considered an act of cowardice to quit on your stool in Europe. I mean it's not a good thing but they put the health of a fighter over our entertainment over there. Hence you see more Europeans quitting like the Pollock Golota and the Klitschko's. It's almost as if fight fans are much more forgiving of that than fans on this side of the pond.

Im no vitaly fan, but he shouldnt be labeled a quitter for the byrd fight. He has a serious shoulder injury that required surgery

I don’t remember coming up with any disparaging fighter names myself. The only one I remember is when Pacquiao was fighting Oscar, I said it should be titled “Manny and the Tranny”

The Juan baby cow Díaz had me laughing. I never heard that one. He was so feather fisted that the bull nick name didn't really suit him lol.

We're you there? I just saw a Juan Díaz interview and he's still involved in boxing at some level. He was at the Ryan Garcia fight.
