Was there anyone other than me that was completely shocked at how Bud handled Spence?

I wouldn't say I was shocked. I did, after all, pick Bud by late stoppage.

I would say the utter one sidedness was unexpected, but it fell short of "shocking."

Spence was hurting to make weight, inactive and coming off a near fatal accident. Listening to him speak before the fight was telling. He admitted Crawford should be favored "after all he been through "

I went back and forth. At first I thought Spence would be too big and too strong. But after watching Spence struggle and hurt vs Ugas and seeing how Crawford had the ability to stop the durable Shawn Porter I thought Spence is in trouble. But I was still shocked at how one sided it was. He said he would beat him like one of his kids and he did lol.

I thought it would be more competitive.

But I just feel that Spence is made for Bud. The things Errol does well play into Bud’s best attributes (those quick, accurate counters).

Speed kills. I’m not sure what Errol could do different next time.

There are things he can do in the rematch.

1)work on his timing. As they say timing beats speed every time.(think Forrest vs Mosley)

2)utilize his physical advantages. Errol is the taller fighter. He needs to fight tall and work on his jab and straight punches to keep Bud at bay.

3)make it ugly. Shawn Porter had success when he clinched and smothered Bud and turned it into a phonebooth fight at times. Spence could clinch and lean on Bud to drain some of his speed.

4)Better strategy to deliver the body attack without getting countered.

The problem is I don't think Derrick James is that good of a trainer. He was an average boxer and an average trainer I'm not sure he has the IQ or experience to make those adjustments. So yeah Spence is pretty much fucked.

I picked Bud to stop Spence late in a competitive fight but I didn't expect it to be that one sided. Still a shocking surprise.

Seemed like spence's crouched attack played right into Bud's hands

After all these decades of following boxing, it's legitimately near impossible to be "shocked" anymore. It was "shocking" when Douglas beat Tyson, or when Tarver KO'd Roy. Those were results that truly made your jaw drop.

Bud dismantling Spence wasn't that. It wasn't expected, but I was only minorly surprised.

Tarver knocking out jones jr was the most shocked I've ever seen a live crowd at any fight. No one left the arena for a half hour

I think Jones started his decline in 2001. As a LHW he started getting criticized by Larry for fighting what they considered garbage men and policemen. Around the time he did the chicken wing vs Glenn Kelly you just knew he wasn't facing the stiffest competition. Then moved up to HW and cherry picked the worst HW "champ" in history and drained himself back down to LHW to face Milk Dud...the writing was on the wall. Unless you were a Roy Jones nutt-licker you had to see it coming.

I thought Tarver vs Roy 2 was an absolute shocker. Biggest of my lifetime by far (I didn't know about Tyson vs Douglas when it happened).

Even though Roy had struggled in the first bout, he was the overwhelming favorite, had never been hurt in the ring and looked like vintage Roy in the first round. The one-punch KO was a jaw-dropper

Ain't it crazy how after that he started getting knocked out on a regular? CTE is real.

    Exactly.

BoxFan is on here making himself look like some type of Nostradamus.

I remember like yesterday the general feeling among 95% of sports writers AND the prominent boxing forums going into the rematch. 9/10 writers and posters picked Roy to destroy Tarver in the rematch.

"I saw it coming" sounds like a whole crock of BS.

Not a surprising result, but a shocking moment was in Oscar vs Mayorga.

Oscar was, and often still is, portrayed as a much lesser puncher than Tito, who was a killer. Tito smashed outsized Mayorga brutally for eight rounds yet only was able to down him with body shots.

To see Oscar knock him down hard with a single hook in the very first round was quite a surprise

I wasn’t shocked because the beating he took against Trinidad was bad. I figured his punch resistance was gonna take a hit. When Oscar caught him in the first with that hook I knew that his chin was not what it once was.

Though REED Picked Spence, He was FULLY Prepared for Spence to LOSE; Even By KO...

Bud's Abilities & Superior Athleticism Weren't Exactly a MYSTERY, But REED Rolled w/His Heart and the "Bigger/Stronger Man" Theory...REED Expected Momentum Shifts, Lively Exchanges and the Possibility of BOTH Men Tasting the Canvas...As Bud Put It "We're Gonna Fight the SHIT Out of Each Other"; REED Expected Likewise, a TRUE 50/50 Affair...

REED Was Flat Out SHOCKED By the Ease w/Which Bud Dismantled Spence, However...

The Fact Bud Never "Felt" Spence, So to Speak...Was Never in the Slightest Bit of Trouble or Duress...REED Was SHOCKED By How BASIC, How INEPT Bud Made Spence Look...REED Was Equally Shocked by the LACK of a Fight Night Size Advantage (Which EVERY Person That Picked Spence was RELYING Upon)...& REED's Jaw DROPPED to His Living Room Floor when Bud Easily SHOVED Spence Off of Him Out of a Clinch, to the Other Side of the Ring, Early in Round 2...

What was THOUGHT To Be a 50/50 Fight Was a 90/10, 95/5 Fight, in Reality...That was SHOCKING to REED Then and STILL Is To this Day...

Same. I could have just liked your post, but I often disagree with you. Not on this. I picked Crawford, but not with so much confidence. Spence without the health issues, I think I would have picked him. A mismatch just wasn't in the expected range of what was going to happen.
