Nobody gives Liverpool a harder time and somehow always loses more than Palace.

Their biggest win against Liverpool in the Premier League was probably that 3-3 draw.

I know it's only December but I think we have to take Villa seriously as title challengers. That's 15 home wins in a row now. Pretty damn impressive.

Trippier having an awful time this past few days.....

I've always rated him, he's a fantastic player but FUCK he has been rinsed the past few games. No beef with NUFC, like Feebs has said they've been utterly decimated with injuries to an absurd extent, but yeah Trippier has not had a good week.

It started with a mistake Vs Everton and tonight you could see his confidence was badly harmed. Unless NUFC do some serious spending - and seriously effective spending at that - this January, then that's likely to be that vis a vis top 4.

Worse than that, however, is the damage done to the coefficient if both United's go out of the CL midweek

Aren't England top of the coefficient? I doubt there's any genuine danger of them losing a spot, especially after City won everything last year. I remember the (relatively) barren period in the 2010's where the only English side to make it to the Champions League quarter-finals was Leicester, and even then England didn't look like losing a place. Even if both Uniteds go out, I'm still expecting City and Arsenal to go deep in the competition, plus Villa etc to do well in the other comps.

Yeah England certainly has had lower periods but i'm too lazy to look up how the numbers work in the coefficient system. I assume Europa counts as well so even if both United sides get bumped out of the CL there's not much danger in losing a spot next year.

Commentary on tonight's Spurs Vs Newcastle game definitely said the "5 Teams can qualify" was under threat if both United's went out midweek.

Then again he also saif it was 200 miles from Newcastle to London..

    It's 278.

  13. Irish

Yeah it's the 5th slot that's under threat. Not the 4th.

The only way five qualify for CL is if the CL winner doesn't make the top 4 that season.

I think the show you were listening to was thinking Man City may get a point deduction and Man U just might not make top 4.

I looked it up, yeah they are expanding the competition next year, with two extra spaces for countries with the highest coefficients. Weird that it doesn't seem to get mentioned much.

I knew they were revamping the format next year but.I hadn't heard they were adding more available spots.

I wish they would leave it as is.

Same. Obviously greed, but it wasn't broken, no need to fix it.

Anything that doesn't allow for exponential revenue growth in a rapid timeframe is by definition broken...I'm not prone to nostalgia when it comes to sports but the European cups are death row and that will be a shame

Shifting away from the Prem: Girona and Leverkusen are having remarkable seasons. That's downright shocking for Girona; they're currently leading LaLiga.

Yeah, been watching both closely. Girona were exceptional against Barca on the weekend. Huge win. I do think Real will catch them by the end though. Would like Leverkusen to finally win it after all the near-miss heartbreak their fans went through in the 2000s.

Yeah, I'd be pretty shocked if Madrid doesn't catch them by the end. But will root for the underdog story.

No! They must "improve" everything . More teams! More games! More exhausting schedules! Have you bought your subscription for next year yet? !!!

  23. Irish

Hope they both do it. Fuck Villa by the way, that underdog shit applies to OTHER leagues, not mine lol
It's getting to the stage where absence from the CL will almost be a pre requisite to winning the domestic league, at least for the Prem.

Yes, City did what they did last year but I'm of the opinion it's going to be almost impossible to deal with this "improved" Europe and a domestic league stacked with teams who can RUN vastly better sides close every other weekend.

Right now it's looking like the Danes might get out the group. United need to beat Bayern and they ALSO need for Copenhagen v Galatasaray to end in a draw.
