Spence had another eye surgery this week. Said that the Crawford rematch is off.

You have to wonder if this it for Spence. Though he says right now he's yet retiring, I suspect he may now be unofficially retired.

I'm glad we'll never see that pointless ass rematch.

I don’t think Errol has the fire to fight anymore, anyways. I never saw the rematch happening.

Spence is likely to be finished at this point. Crawford should face someone else rather than move forward to a pointless rematch.

I don't think it's gonna be an issue. Spence doesn't want the rematch. I wouldn't be surprised if this is his excuse to justify not going through with it.

I think the pride in Spence wanted a rematch... for the first few months...

Now I think common sense has settled in, and Spence realizes that he can't beat Bud. He probably also realizes that even to have a TINY chance of winning he'd have to push himself to a level in training that he's not willing to go to anymore.

Isn't spence trying to imply this latest eye problem affected his performance in the crawford fight?

He could have simply claimed he didn't train hard for the Crawford fight

That excuse only works when you lose to a guy you underestimated.

If you don't train hard for the biggest fight of your career, people won't take you seriously.

I suspect we've seen the last of Spence. He has his Ranch and his family. I don't think he wants to do it anymore. That fire he had 8 years ago was the fire of a young man, and it's never coming back. Plus, PHYSICALLY he's never coming back.

Granted, what we saw in July indicates that NO version of Spence beats Crawford. In his prime he'd have given a better account of himself in a still losing effort.

Agreed. Change the weight class, the gloves, the venue the date or whatever Crawford is winning that fight.

I'll be shocked if he just quits. He'd be leaving a lot of money on the table.

A lot of money on the table with whom? If the Crawford rematch doesn't happen, then what other money fight is out there for Spence?

There's plenty of pbc fighters at 154. He'd bank the same change he was getting before he faced Crawford. If he loses to one of those guys, maybe he quits. But I don't think he's done yet.

I agree with that. Spence is still in his early 30s and has zero future in commentary. He can take a tune up or 2 (making good money) and make a good 7 figure payday with potential for another, if not a possible 8 figure payday if he beats a decent guy and looks good enough to face Crawford again or ennis or whoever is hot in 2025

He aint walking away from that unless his eye is really fucked

I agree Spence has made enough money to walk away with his health. Nobody outside of his most hardcore fans believe he has a chance vs Crawford. I want to see Boots vs Crawford next. The only serious challenge for Crawford imo.

I wouldn't rule out his chances as a commentator. I know he has that annoying Southern drawl, Huckleberry Hound thing going on, but there have been less eloquent speakers who made it as boxing commentators. For instance, he's not worst than James Toney or Paulie Malinaggi.

Paulie in his Showtime prime was a MUCH better commentator than Bradley. Obviously Bradley was a better and more accomplished fighter, but Paulie's commentating insights were better than Bradley's.

Bradley is a better commentator than ward! And had a greater hof career. Unheralded without olympic acclaim yet defeated 2 clear cut first ballot hall of fame all time greats in pacquaio and Marquez

Tells it like it is, too

Bradley probably paid less than Ward. ESPN has lost a lot of viewers because of its editorial approach to covering sports. So the primary consideration was the need to cut costs.

Well it wouldn't be the first time YouTubers crossed over to television. Doug Fisher started off with Steve Kim at Max Boxing, Ariel Halwani. The only thing is Reed would need to step up his game to get a few more subscribers to catch the attention of the ESPN executives. I think he'd do very well too.
