Callum Smith is hinting at retirement. I would call it a good choice if he does. If he quits now, he can say his only two losses came to two elite fighters.

If he continued on, his only future is to become a stepping stone.

Of course, if he quits now, he will no longer earn money as a boxer.

Well, if he's suggesting retirement, then obviously he feels he's already made enough to live comfortably on.

How can you duck anyone bigger than you? That's like saying Mike Garcia ducked the Errol Spence Jr rematch. Or Trinidad Ducked Hopkins, Or DLH ducked Hopkins. Everyone agreed these were scenarios where the big great man beat a great little man. They just bit off more than they could chew in trying to achieve greatness. People said the same about Charlo vs Canelo or Andrade vs Benevidez. Nobody wants a rematch or is saying they're ducking. So I wonder why they don't keep the same energy when it comes to Canelo? Jealousy? Racism? Probably a little of both.

Here you fuckin go. Race-baiting again for absolutely no reason. It makes it hard for anyone here to take your arguments seriously. There's absolutely zero history of anti-Mexican fighters on Fightbeat.

Unlike BoxingFanatics, which clearly was pro-Mexican and anti-Black fighter, and unlike ESB, which was always pro-Eastern European fighters and anti-any fighter of color.

Check that race-baiting BS at the door. There is NO poster on here who dislikes Canelo because he's Mexican.

Then why don't you keep the same energy for Charlo. He moved up fought Canelo and got beat just as badly as Canelo got beat by Bivol. He moved back down to his own weight. Nobody gave him shit or called for a rematch. There is absolutely no reason why you would want to see Canelo vs Bivol 2 unless you're a Canelo hater. That fight was not competitive at all.

I don't keep the same energy for Charlo because clearly i love Charlo. Everyone knows that. You think Charlo bros groupie, you think X. And I'm never critical of Charlo because he's a brother. Black power!

I don't think Beterbiev is this monster.....he'd do well to survive in the late 70s early 80s.

People call me the nostalgic, but that's hard to say.

I wouldn't pick Beterbiev against Spinks and Qawi. That much is clear. Spinks is a given. He's the 175 GOAT imo. Beterbiev ain't beating him.

Saad? You have to favor Saad based on his body of work, but Saad never met a punch he could avoid. Soaking up punishment isn't a good thing against Beter. It'd be an interesting matchup.

Eddie MM could beat Beterbiev on an A-game night, but you never knew what version of Eddie you'd get.

Galindez vs Beterbiev would be interesting. As would Conteh vs Beterbiev, if Conteh was at his peak.

I'm pretty confident that Beterbiev beats the likes of Yauqi Lopez, Mike Rossman, and James Scott.

Marvin Johnson has a better chance than those guys, but Beter seems like a safer pick over Johnson than the opposite.

What I'm trying to say is... I would make Beter at least live over any of those guys with the exception of Spinks and Qawi.

I'd agree with this. I think Beterbiev is very good. Obviously the power is great but I'm more impressed by his technique. Can look a bit meat and potatoes sometimes but he's technically sound.

    Yes, the Mighty Mike Rossman.

I mean, I do see Irish's point though. Beter's resume is rather thin. Even Mike Rossman was a lot better than a Callum Smith.

But Beter appears to have both the talent and the mental toughness to hang with most of the 70s/80s light heavys. Though I was big Kovalev fan in his prime, I'll admit.. Beterbiev just seems mentally stronger than Kov was.

If we include the entire 70s, then I'd make Beter a clear underdog against Foster, Spinks, and Qawi.

Everyone else he has an argument over.

They're the most average boxing family in history. Even their bloody names are average.

Liam got the most out his totally ordinary talent. At least Callum was blessed with power. Liam doesn't even have that, yet he held the WBO crown at junior middle at one point. Definitely overachieved.

Liam had the best win, with the KO of Eubank. Callum's win over Groves (who is a little underrated these days) was good, but Groves had quite clearly checked out by that point.

To sum it up, Callum was definitely the most talented of the brothers, he had decent power and a good shot selection, but he was quite basic, truth be told.

Paul was a decent European level fighter. I respect his determination but he just wasn't very good.

Liverpool has been crying out for a world class fighter since Conteh. I liked Colin Dunne but you couldn't put him in the same class obviously. It does seem like it should be a breeding ground for great boxers but for whatever reason it's never happened.

Yeah, Beterbiev's Basic AF, But it's a GOOD Basic...The Fact He's Basic is What's Allowing Beterbiev to AGE Gracefully, w/Minimal Decline, in REED's Opinion...

Tis an honor for any fighter to share the ring with Canelo. If you disagree, you clearly must hate Mexicans.
