According to Elie Sackback, Rolly priced himself out of a fight with Ryan Garcia, and now supposedly Ryan's next opponent will be Jose Ramirez. That matchup might backfire for Ryan. I'm sure they're banking on Ramirez being faded, and I think Ramirez is faded. The version of Ramirez that stopped Hooker 5 years ago would give Ryan a beatdown, but that version of Ramirez is likely gone.
I would hope that Ryan would be able to beat Barroso and Rolly. Let's not go overboard on Barroso's ancient ass. He got stopped by Crolla for fucks sake.
Nah, that's not what I'm saying. I'm saying that both Rolly and Barroso are very average fighters. If Ryan keeps his focus, he should be able to beat either of them. I didn't mean that you personally are going overboard on Barroso, but many are.
My understanding is that G is pushing the fight and that Garcia doesn't want it. Back when he was 17, 18 years old I thought that Ryan had an upside. I don't think that any more. He stayed too long with his father as trainer and he came out of that with a lot of bad habits. When he changed trainers he resisted efforts to break those habits and refused to do things that would have improved him as a fighter. That is why Goosen and Oscar reacted like they did after Ryan lost to Davis. In my estimation, if you were looking for the perfect representation of a guy that wants it all and thinks that he is entitled to it all- without trials, tribulations or effort beyond his natural gifts- Ryan would be your guy. G, in my opinion, is looking to cash him out. Let me phrase that differently...they are looking to give him a put up or shut up fight. Potentially Garcia can sell a bunch of PPVs but, if he is a pain in the ass to deal with, there comes a point where it isn't worth it. And there is another guy in the pipeline, a California guy with a way better amateur background than Ryan and, promoted independently, he has already fought way better competition (other than Davis) than Ryan. I have no idea why abbreviating Golden Boy Promotions keeps translating to the yellow face.
Ryan has been unhappy with Oscar ever since Oscar said in an interview that they had cherry picked Ryan's opponents as he was coming up. The interviewer kind of pressured him and got him to say it reluctantly.
Spence dropped out of the rematch, and so Garcia should get all the smoke and challenge Crawford instead
Even casuals know that Ryan is a fraud after the Tank fight. I don't think Crawford vs Ryan would be a huge box office success. Everyone with half a brain would know it's a public execution. The biggest money matchup for Ryan now is Haney. Obviously, Haney's a big favorite, but promoters can sell their amateur history and convince the public that Ryan has a chance. There's nooooooooo selling Ryan having a chance against Bud.
I'm not sure about that. I would disagree. I don't think casuals are as dumb as you think. Maybe they could afford to be dumb when PPVs were cheaper, but at $100 a PPV pop, you can't fool many people except for teenage girls into thinking that Crawford vs Ryan is a legit matchup. There's also a generational gap between them that makes it hard to sell. Haney and Garcia are both young, and it's an easier sell. As I said, Golden Boy can hammer the angle that Ryan fought on even terms with Haney in the amateurs. Following the shit talking press tour, enough people would be convinced that Ryan has a chance that it would end up doing good numbers on PPV. Not nearly AS many buys as Tank-Garcia, but I will hold my opinion that it would outsell Crawford vs Ryan. The general public is somewhat gullible, but they ain't thaaattttt fuckin gullible to buy Crawford-Garcia.
Ryan rejects the Ramirez fight: Ryan Garcia Throws A Wrench In The Works: Ramirez Fight Rejected - Boxing News
I can't stand that Eastside writers inject their own retarded takes into articles. Just report hard news, dumbasses. I'm not all that convinced that Ramirez is too much for Ryan in 2023. Ramirez's prime was 2018-2021. I think he's well past it now. Ryan might be way too fast for him at this point. But that's me believing in Ryan more than he believes in himself.
I'm rooting for Ryan. Rolly is a botched abortion. My head also says that Ryan will win, and by stoppage. Rolly will walk into Ryan's check hook chin first. IF Rolly stops Ryan though (a possibility) then it's definitely the end of the line for Ry.
