Props to AJ. That was clinical - calmly wrecked him and acted like it was a stroll in the park.

Man, that was the textbook definition of a reality check for Ngannou! I like the guy but damn, did he belong in the ring with Joshua? I don’t think so!

Speaking of comebacks, I read a story the other day about an African fighter who was 35-0 and in line for a title fight when he got some flesh eating bug in his legs .

The doctors amputated both legs just above the ankle and he's since made a miraculous comeback.

He's gone 10 fights without defeat.

The thing is, Fury is one of those guys who fights to the level of his opponent. He didn't see N'Gannou as a threat and lost (imo) and put boxing's reputation in the gutter. However, it genuinely wouldn't surprise me if he came back and beat Usyk and Joshua back to back. He's just one of those guys. Saying that, I do think his legs have gone, he can't move like he used to be able to.

Yep, I like Ngannou, but boxing needed this badly. Poor Francis almost got sent to the shadow realm. So much about boxing not being a real combat sport

You don't often see heavyweights sparked out cold like that. For a minute there I thought Ngannou might be badly hurt.
He looked like a beaten child when he was standing next to Joshua afterwards - it was the sort of total
destruction that fighters rarely come back from.

Now if that was Ngannou's boxing debut, everyone would be screaming that it was a disgraceful mismatch. Thanks to
Fury being an over confident blob lots of people, including Ngannou himself, thought he was the real deal. Shows the
huge gulf in striking ability between mma and boxing, that's for sure.

I've said it before but Ngannou is basically at a Phil Jackson (when he was a an up and coming fighter and not the journeyman of later years) level. And if I'm 100% honest, I think that's being generous. This event was simply overhyped garbage and to Joshua credit, he dispatched easily of Nganou as expected

Yeah Fury didn’t take N’Gannou seriously at all. But I think time has caught up to him. I think he has enough to beat AJ still, but I think Usyk probably beats him now.

When Joshua just walked in and casually crushed Ngannou after the second knockdown, it reminded me of Big
George finishing Gerry Cooney. No over eagerness, just stroll in and sledgehammer the guy like he's despatching
    a helpless animal.

Fury is a British Ray Mercer, if he takes his opponent seriously, he could beat anyone, but if he doesn't take them seriously, you get the John McDermott I and Ngannou fights, like Mercer against the Boogeyman Jesse Ferguson and Marion "The Jackhammer" Wilson (an opponent with a losing record!)

This is an old wive's tale that has been around forever. And it's not supported by anything other than supposition. The best boxers don't have any other sports in which they would have excelled. The best basketball players have never shown success in boxing. Same for the best football players.
I know you referenced heavyweights, but name some lower weight fighters who were even college-level at basketball or football?
If we keep it to heavyweights, name the nfl or nba players who have shown the aptitude to be potentially great at heavyweight. There just aren't any.

Can you name the fighters who suffered similar losses who never came back from them? I want to know the guys you are referring to before I provide counter-examples.

Fury's voluptuous jiggling breasts and Michelin-Man love handles have proven to be a hindrance as he gets older and slower. Meanwhile AJ has been in the gym working on his "hot chocolate" rippling physique, which serves him well.

What this all means I don't know, but it's well worth pondering.

I'm looking at some comment sections on Instagram. You have a faction of people swearing that Frances took a dive.

It's mind boggling to think that these are the sperm that WON the race to life!

''Not supporter by anything other than supposition'' lol. how exactly are we suppose to ''prove it'' :Jest:?? The NFL/NBA theory makes perfect sense and a ton of NFL and NBA players would have made for great boxers. With the amount of athletic skills in those leagues it's beyond ridiculous to claim otherwise,
Just compare how swiftly these giants compared to the oafs we have at hw currently.

Your ''the best basketball and football players have never shown success in boxing'' argument is incredibly moronic; why would they gamble everything to go into boxing seriously if they are already making millions in a sport that doesn't require getting punched in the face. And even if they would, they'd be starting with more or less a 20 years gap in experience.

I always thought the 'best boxers are in basketball' thing was just Americans trying to justify why Deontay Wilder is the best heavyweight they've had for 20 years.

I think the broader issue is that heavyweight itself was always going to get worse over time. People are getting bigger, bigger guys don't need as much skill, so the division suffers. I mean, people have convinced themself Fury is a boxing genius, but compare him to someone like Crawford and it's night and day.

Yeah, maddening. I genuinely have a hard time even comprehending how they could come to such a conslusion. I get their thinking about the 2 meter tall behemoths of today beating the sub Light Heavyweights of past eras due to sheer size, but some people unironically seemed to think Fury was just a bigger Ali. Beating a lethargic robot and a right arm far from requires you to be channeling Manos de Piedra, it's really not that impressive if we take his size into account.

Was Fury ever really that good? A shit fight vs cowardly Wlad where both guys feinted all night. Wilder needs to be put in context as a shitty fighter with one punch.

I think Usyk is going to totally expose this fraud on the biggest stage.

Fury's not a bad fighter, but even at his peak I never bought the notion that he could hang with the heavyweight all time greats.

Ali, Holmes, Tyson, Holy, Lewis, Foreman, ect. Fury is food against all those guys. And more.
