Smaller weight class fighter that you wish fought at a higher weight class

If you were to choose 1 fighter from a lower weight class (105 to 126) that you would have wanted to be born as a naturally larger fighter and competed at a higher weight class (147 to 200+)who would it be? You can also pick a specific weight class and boxing era that you think they would do well in just for fun.

I personally would have liked to have seen either Chocolatito or Finito López at 147 and competing against the likes of Duran or SRL.

If Finito Lopez was a welterweight in the 80s he sure as fuck would have ducked Leonard and Duran, and if he fought them, both of them would have mopped the floor with him.

 

To answer the question: I'd like to see prime Jofre as a welterweight in the 60s or prime Gomez as a lightweight in the 80s.

 

147 pound version of Jofre would be almost hard to beat. Imagine a WW version of Jofre taking on Emile Griffith, Luis Manuel Rodriguez, or Jose Napoles.

Gomez at 135 in the 80s would be pretty exciting. Having Bazooka in with Arguello, Chavez, Camacho, Rosario, Mancini, Ramirez, Bramble, etc. would be awesome.

 

Korean Hawk at 147, 160 or 175 would be scary.

 

I'd put a prime Chang at 140 in the early 80s to face Pryor, and sit back to enjoy watching WWIII go down.

 

You can add prime Jeff Fenech and Roman Gonzalez in the mix as well. My goodness what a treat that would be.

 

It'd be a sad day for Neil if Pryor got his hands on Chocolatito.

The Hawk already beat down a MUCH better Nicaraguan.

 

Gilberto Roman's promoter used to call him the Sugar Ray Leonard of the Flyweights, even making a bold claim that if Roman had been a Middleweight he would have beaten SRL and Roberto Duran. As skilled and classy as Roman was it's hard to envision even a bigger version ofRoman having any chance against those two.

 

Roman's chin wasn't good enough to beat guys of Leonard or Duran class.

Well, more than that. Roman just wasn't as talented or as skilled as Leonard/Duran. But it doesn't help that his chin wasn't stellar.

 

Roman came out of the trilogy against Lacair worse off IMO, he wouldn't stand a chance against Duran.

 

His chin wasn’t too bad. Román only got stopped twice in his career. One was on cuts against Laciar and the other one was when he quit on his stool against Moon in his last fight. The fight where he got dropped 5 times against Konadu he still managed to make it to the final bell.

SRL and Duran were clearly a level above Roman when we’re talking about skills and intangibles.
