Fairytale of New York being beaten to Christmas No1 by a shitty copy of an Elvis number performed by two fairies ....still fucking annoys.

I think the Arctic Monkeys are criminally underrated. Best lyrics since The Smiths. Probably era defining too in that they sum up that entire immediate pre-and-post financial crash feeling in "regional" United Kingdom.....them and The Streets.

Compare and contrast with the people who were getting attention:- Lily fucking Allen, Amy Winehouse etc.

I've always said they're a genuinely great band. Love 'em.

One of the very very few musical artists whose work actually brings me right back to a specific era and a very specific mood and feeling.

Bruce Springsteen (BITUSA, Dancing in the dark) captures the mid 80s feel for me-when I was a kid.

10 years after that it's the embarrassment of Blur Vs Oasis.

Then 10 years later, it's Arctic Monkeys, Kaiser Chiefs, The Killers.

My youngest brother (19.5 yrs younger than me) likes them. They're his favorite band. So I have heard them here and there. I like them but not enough to get into them .

They definitely fit in with what was going on here in the early 2000s.

I like Blur & Oasis but I wasn't in a country where both were being hyped like they were in the UK. Although I was in Japan for the release of Oasis' third LP, Be Here Now. Some absolutely crazy scenes around Tower Records Tokyo. Tons of advertising and mobs of people. The closest thing I have seen to Beatlemania in my lifetime.

Half brother. My dad's second family. Then there's my half sister. She's 27 years and 3 months younger than me.

You guys who like Arctic Monkeys might like The Walkmen. Their first LP, Everyone Who Pretended To Like Me Is Gone, was a sublime mix of pub rock with piano rock and hard rock. Their sound hardened after that. They broke up around 2009 or so then reunited just last year.

It's crazy to think they were part of that whole early 2000's "indie" scene with The Strokes, The Vines, The Libertines, Kaiser Chiefs, The Kooks and so on. Their early stuff was like a really high-end version of that stuff, genuinely excellent. Great lyrics too like you say. They were the only ones to evolve out of all of them, to the point that they're almost unrecognisable. Some of it hasn't always hit with me, and it borders on pretentious occasionally, but I've always massively respected the ambition. I REALLY like a lot of the more recent cinematic stuff, I have to say. Very talented group.

"You're a TopShop Superstar"....their ability to capture an entire genre of female demographic in 4 words, brilliant.

Scary Spice was on TV recently. She's broke and depressed. Ginger, she of Girl Power game, is married to a guy who has been accused of some very MeToo style behaviour.

Sporty went and got really really fat.

The only one who really seems to have stayed straight was Baby.

Sporty fat. I don't believe it. She was always showing off that six pack. She's from Liverpool. And my favorite but just like the Lightning Seeds, her only fault is being an LFC fan.

Except Paul Hemmings , guitarist (The Las, Lightning Seeds.) He's a blue. But he left around 2000 or so to be replaced by Riley Broudie (another red.)

She put on a few pounds but not too bad. I'd still want to see her naked just like the others.

Their video for "Stop" is the most English thing ever. It's like an episode of Dr. Who with five beauties as the guest stars.

A good drinking game is to watch all the Spice Girls videos and take a drink every time Victoria aka Posh Spice points at the camera. It's her only move.

I don't need to see Pish Spice nude, with her plastic frozen face and rubber tits.
