Prime for prime. We saw what happens when Oscar was in his prime vs a past prime Pea and many still feel that Pea beat him. How does this play out in their primes?? How much does the weight play into it??
The fat Whitaker against Vasquez probably wins 7-8 rounds against the DLH that stopped Vargas. The Whitaker that blew out Buddy McGirt's shoulder wins a minimum of 8 rounds. LW & 140 DLH would look like a leap amateur in there
Oscar was big and powerful at the weight but I think he only has a puncher’s chance. His best shot at a win is at 147 or 154, but I think Whitaker from 1990-1994 still had too much skill and ring IQ for Oscar.
PR asked how does it go down in their primes. The fight could easily be at 140. That was Oscar's best weight (everyone accepts that), and when Whitaker beat Pineda to win the title at 140 he was very much in his prime. In fact, Pineda was one of his sharpest performances. 140 I figure is more fair for Oscar. But even at 140, prime Whitaker outboxes him by a lot.
I had their actual fight something like 8-4 Whitaker anyway, so a prime one would probably win every round.
Undoubtedly, but he did have some excellent performances at 140 too. Iirc, that's where he fought Pineda and Brazier, two of his best showings.
