Usyk isn't some jive boogaloo. He's not gonna come online a whoppin and a boppin. You save that shit for Avon street.
Fury is an oaf and I was happy to see him get beat. However, there's definitely a case to be made that he won the fight. I wasn't really scoring it, but I had him 5-2 up through seven. The first three were tight and it depends on what you liked, but Fury took control 4-7 and Usyk looked very discouraged at that point. Usyk clearly won the 8th big, 9th bigger and then the 10th. The last two were like the first three; very tight to score. Sometimes it's easy to score a fight a certain way when one fighter wins round much clearer than the other wins theirs. I've seen a few wide scorecards today which I think are scored on that basis. That isn't how a fight is scored, though. Each round is it's own compartmentalised scorecard and the fact that Fighter A has been punched all around the ring in the last one doesn't have a bearing on the next, unless (as happened in the 10th) Fighter A spends that round running and recovering. I can definitely see a way that Fury won that fight. I'm not saying he did because I was enjoying it too much to score properly. But Usyk only won three rounds very clear (one a 10-8, obviously). MTF
Exactly. Winning rounds bigger than the other guy doesn't mean shit. It's your very good 10-9 cancelled out by his good 10-9. You edge a round, he sweeps it, it's still 19-19 after two. This fight came down to Usyk busting the man's nose and then having the diligence, born of years of training, to take advantage of Furys hapless idiosyncratic fidgeting and inattentiveness.
There was no KO. Stick to your Cambodian Noodle Fighting, Way of the Udon, Enter the Pot Noodle, whatever the fuck it's called, Shrimp Ramen. Irate brown dwarves screaming at the screen...."He unconshus, he go down, oh no, look, he go again!!"
Froch v Ward is the classic example. Ward battered the farmer all around the ring for five rounds and everyone was surprised at the relatively close cards, despite Froch winning at least four of the last five rounds. It doesn't matter how big you win the round unless you score a KD or a KO. Each round is separate. MTF
Yeah. An example of that also is Holy vs Lewis in their first fight. People saw round 5, said that's it .....then forgot about Holy sweeping 7 thru 11.
Momentum matters, too. If Usyk wins the first three like he did rs 8-10, then the rest of the rounds played out the way they did, there would be a lot more people proclaiming Furry the winner. Too many people scored fights on the way the fight ends. Watching a giant oaf stumble round the ring near the end of the fight often cancels out the way it went before hand. MTF
Pretty big weekend in sport over here. Feels a lot of things came to pass in 24 hours..... Fury beaten. Klopp gone.
Yes. You see that in a lot of the "sober reporting"....."the fight was close but it is hard to see past the spectacle of fury falling around...." Etc.. It's like a dead heat 100m where people say the winner should be the guy who made up ground on the line..
I had rounds 1 and 8-11 as clear Usyk rounds I had 4-6 as clear Fury rounds Rounds 2, 3, 7 and 12 were all close imo, but I gave Usyk rounds 2 and 3 with Fury taking rounds 7 and 12. I suspect I would change my mind on round 7 on rewatch and score it clearer to Fury, but I don't think I would alter my scores for both 2 and 3. I agree with your general point in the second paragraph
Like I said pal, I wasn't scoring, so am not in a position to argue too much on it. I had no problem with either winning, and said so before the cards were called. Can't really see how anyone won the first clearly, though. It depends on what you liked. I thought Furry's jab, feinting and body work was effective early doors, but Usyk was cutting the ring off well and pinning Furry into corners, which paid rich dividends later on. Lots of subjective scope in the scoring. As boxing always is when someone doesn't get knocked out. Great to see a new poster contributing to the forum. Ignore the wankers, mate MTF
Nope. Know Senna from a different forum. Been encouraging him to post here after a lurking for a while. He's sound. MTF

Yeah it is definitely a rule in pro boxing generally, so I guess unless otherwise noted in the unified rules it remains in force as an option for the referee.
Apparently Usyk is now pound for pound number one. I'm not really up on the sport like talking bout but is that ranking deserving?
How is round 12 a debatable round? Fury was basically on his back foot the entire round, Usyk effectively pressing the action, out-landing him 2:1 and landing the cleaner, harder and more damaging shots. I’d like to hear the case for Fury.
Crawford even Tweeted saying that Usyk deserves P4P #1. So yeah, it's deserved. I would still say that Crawford and Inoue are the two best fighters in the world. But there's really no wrong answer between those 3. Just as long as those guys are your top 3 P4P, any order is acceptable.
Usyk beat a dominant champion who was 5 inches taller and 40 lbs heavier than him. Definitely a P4P performance.
I was more curious about his past performances. Does beating one big champion outscore years of dominance by Inoue and Crawford? Does Usyk have a history of past performance domination that matches theirs?
