Within a 10 year span in his pro career Usyk managed to pull off being a force in both CW and HW. Personally I think Usyk would be very competitive in any HW era, although I don’t think his unbeaten record would go unscathed. If we were to put Usyk in a time machine for him to compete in the HW division within a 10 year span how well do you think the Usyk that we've been seeing at HW would fare in the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s era?

1960s - Sonny Lison, Floyd Patterson, Cassius Clay, Joe Frazier, Oscar Bonavena, George Chuvalo, Ernie Terrell, Ingemmar Johansson, Zora Folley, Jimmy Ellis

1970s - Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier, George Foreman, Larry Holmes, Ken Norton, Leon Spinks, Earnie Shavers, Jimmy Young, Ron Lyle, Jerry Quarry

1980s - Larry Holmes, Michael Spinks, Mike Tyson, Michael Dokes, Gerrie Coetzee, Pinklon Thomas, Tim Witherspoon, Tony Tubbs

1990s - Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield, Lennox Lewis, Riddick Bowe, Michael Moorer, George Foreman, Ray Mercer, Andrew Golota, Tommy Morrison, Hasim Rahman, Donovan Ruddock, Ike Ibeabuchi, David Tua

We were told the smaller heavyweights from previous eras could never compete with these giants of today :Jest:

    Hows that take turning out?

Finally a guy with legitimate skill, moves up from cruiser and whips these British frauds

Usyk is very limited, he,s lucky he’s fighting in this garbage era as he’s nothing special imo.

Honestly I think he’s basically 50/50 with Byrd, which is not bad considering Byrd was a 2 times champ who beat some solid opponents (controversially most of the time however) but far from the ATG bullshit we are being fed

I won't co-sign the British frauds part Neil stated, because theres an Alabama fraud in the mix too, but Usyk has definitely proven that skill and ability will overcome heavyweight size. Proof that a prime Ali or Holmes would still reign superior today over these bigger guys. Ugo is somewhere having a stroke.

To answer the question, Usyk would do well against all but the top guys.

I said years ago that Fury only looked good, because everyone else was so bad. And because of that I can't get too high on Usyk as a heavyweight. I think he'd be competetive in any era, but far from becoming a great. The nineties look a tall order for him...

Yes Saturday fight was pretty solid but I won’t deceive myself into believing this was some exceptional display of skills and athleticism. Both were slow and plodding. Hw is garbage and it’s been garbage for a long time

Usyk has the least chance against young Tyson than he'd have against any other heavy in history. Mike is basically perfect to ruin Usyk.

The footspeed to easily cut off the ring and close distance on Usyk. The even-handed power that Usyk's southpaw stance wouldn't matter. The combination punching and speed. And the fact that Usyk can't hurt Mike. It'd be a quick slaughter.

Usyk would get stopped by a lot of other guys, but Tyson would go through him the quickest.

I wouldn't sell Usyk that short. He has more substance than Chris Turd.

Ha, was thinking of UGK earlier. He used to argue that size was a skill, or words to that effect. I never understood why he shilled so heavily for these lumbering goons.

I've always said similar about Fury.

Never once have bought into the idea of Fury whupping any heavyweight great. The skill would overcome the size.

Put it this way, you give a prime Joe Louis modern strength training and diet and he'd come into the ring at a solid 215-220. Louis would waste Fury.

I think the same goes for Fury against a young Tyson. The head movement, bobbing and weaving and hand speed would give Fury fits. And when he landed like Usyk did, no ref or ropes would save him from getting KTFO.

Well yeah, Fury has said out of his own mouth that he doesn't think he'd beat a young Tyson. Joshua also said he wouldn't beat Mike.

Wilder's the only delusional fraud who said he'd KO a prime Tyson.

Ya can BARELY beat a 200-year-old Luis Ortiz ya fuckin fraud.

I agree. But it's nice that as well as simply knowing this, now everyone can see the whole "modern heavyweights are just toooo big" as the ignorant bullshit it really is.

Yeah, but Fury's also said on quite a few occasions that there's not a man who's ever been born who could beat him. I've always taken what he's said about Mike as faux humbleness, because he's his namesake etc.

Usyk versus Marciano is interesting. It's more fair to matchup Usyk against Rock than an Ali, Tyson, Lewis.

In theory, maybe Usyk outboxes Rock.

However, you factor in Marciano's legendary body attack and the fact that he had some of the stamina in history...

I'd fancy Marciano by very late stoppage if it's a 15 rounder.

Usyk is a very good fighter. He's smart, tricky and adaptable. He got his ribs roasted in that fight through the middle rounds but he had to keep cutting the ring off because he figured he'd eventually catch Furry because he's lazy with his hands and he makes silly errors. It won him the fight, and fair play to him.

But let's not be silly about this. We all know what this HW division is about. Furry is/was the best of a very bad, but fairly evenly matched bunch. It makes for interesting fights but only because utter bilge like Parker, Chisora, White, Dubious etc are not much worse than the supposed 'elite', so it's all fairly competitive. It's also a big load of crap.

Usyk is probably competitive in the 80s, except that Mike and Larry destroy him. That's a pretty simple exposition if how he'd probably fair, from era to era. His skills would give him a good chance against the goods and some of the very goods. I've seen nothing to suggest he beats great HWs and a fair few things which suggests he gets battered by a number of them.

It feel sacrilegious to say, but UGTBK is kind of a bizarro world Tysonite, who comes off as more polished and less abrasive than say, a Kid Dynamite type of poster.

Though thinking about it, at least Kid Dynamite was hyping a great fighter :Jest:

Good point I was one of them. Thats why I firmly believe a prime Tyson beats any heavyweight of any era including Ali, Holyfield and Even Lennox Lewis. The Tyson that fought Lewis was a shell of himself and no slight on Lewis who was a great champion in his time.
