Garcia is so fucking hated he's catching strays in Wilder threads.. That weight difference last night was insane. I know that there's a giant skill and talent differential between Wilder and the ATGs but some cognizance has to be had of what a 214lb man looked like in there last night. 260lbs used to mean hopeless lumps like Abe Simon or Carnera. Today's big guys are a lot lot better than that..
The last moment of Wilder's career spent spinning around back to front like a guy who's just laced up gloves an hour ago
Just a reminder that before the fight this is what Wilder intended on doing to Zhang. It ended up backfiring on him in a hilarious manner. “For me, not only do I want to knock Big Bang Zhang out, but I want your body to do something crazy while it’s on the canvas. That’s my excitement. I want to see your body go into a seizure, and I want to see your tongue at the back of your mouth. I want to see your eyes rolling back in your head like you’re having great sex. So it’s going to be an interesting fight while it lasts.”
Wilder is shite, but I do think his power was legit. Will never understand hiring a guy who took a dive in one round against you as your coach . He obviously just wanted a yes man. Saying all that, I think I'll always wonder what he could have been if he'd started boxing from a young age with a good coach. He massively overachieved and he can't box for shit, so there's obvious natural athletic ability there, and a god given talent to punch hard, so if it had been honed earlier things might have been different.
I don't get the wilder hate. He's actually heavyweight, tried his best, genuinely shocked guys (90 % of this place picked Stiverne) and did at least spark guys out.
Before I started using the internet to learn about boxing, I just used to watch it on Sky Sports, and Wilder was one of my favourites on there for how brutal his KOs were. It was only after I saw his personality and how he was ducking basically everyone then I began to dislike him.
@Irish ^^^ that's why Anyone who's ever got in the ring and laced 'em up knows that you risk serious hurt when you get in that ring. It's you, him and no-one else. That takes heart and respect, at whatever level you do it. This fucking bellsniff has spent his whole adult life talking about 'bodies' and the above shite, totally disrespecting what this sport is about. Now he's been laid out, thrice. Karma. Fuck him. MTF
True, but, even though I know it's not his fault, there is just something utterly revolting to see such a mediocre fighter getting mentioned in the same sentence as the great hws.
Wilder's trash-talking, in my opinion, is terrible. It's like he puts random words together and even he doesn't know what he's saying half the time. And his catchphrase "bomb squad" annoys the hell out of me
Good point because Marciano was the same....no amateur career worthy of the name, and recognised early as powerful but very limited. He got in with a good coach but also a very very good manager called Al Weill who craftily plotted a course. Marciano was real, his legend has become overblown especially because he died young, but he was an example of how you can take raw talent and train the errors out of them and maximise their potential.
No sport on earth can you go from hero to zero as fast as boxing. A horse breaks his leg and they build a damn statue of him. A boxer wins 50 fights make ten defences then lose 3 from 5 and he's A BUM!!! Older soccer players gravitate to smaller clubs where their skills are more effective and their reputation grows. A boxer is always at the coal face. He gets older and his challengers get younger and harder and bigger.
Can't say it's false. This is the harshest sport. Both in terms of sheer brutality and fan standards. I would note: You can go from hero to zero pretty quickly if you're an NFL quarterback who fails in a big game. That's the harshest position of any team sport in terms of fan and media pressure. But yeah, in individual sports boxers get torn down the fastest.
I don't think he genuinely means half of that shit, it's mostly projection through fear.. Haye used to talk about beheadings, gatecrashed pressers, started fights, cherry picked, then ran Vs Wlad and got laid out by Bellew, that's the Gold Standard....the one thing Wilder should get stick for is the Zelenoff affair.
I view them all as one and the same thing. Propensity. Someone who did the Zelenoff thing is much more likely to actually mean the shit we see him say than Haye etc, who was just a self-publicising blowhard. MTF
Nick ball taking a bullshit defense vs doheny Doheny took a dive after rd 1. Weird sequence where he kneed doheny in the ass
Always liked wilder. But that zelensky thing was a disgrace. I get it that hes a master troll and was insulting his family, but he clearly has huge mental issues... Was a bit like the school jock beating up the annoying autist. Not a good look for wilder
