Any thoughts on this guy? Does he have potential or is he all flash with no substance and a KO waiting to happen, especially with the Naseem Hamed impersonation/showboating?
He's definitely alright, certainly better than Josh Kelly, the last in this mold. I don't think he's destined for super stardom or anything, but he could be in some decents fight over the next few years.
Personally I think he’s got talent and we could possibly see him against the elites in the future but he needs to tone down the antics.
I think there is definitely talent there, how far he goes is anyone's guess tbh. Won't watch him properly until he starts fighting decent guys, but I've enjoyed the highlights I've seen.
His last fight just happened recently where the biggest highlight was him walking his opponent back into his corner as a sign of disrespect and then getting headbutted. The Naseem Hamed antics is starting to wear itself thin. Could just be a matter of time until he runs into an opponent that may do a Barrera on him.
Don't mind the showboating when it's against someone at a similar level but this guy comes off as plainly disrespectful. A former Olympian constantly taunting part time boxers who just try to make some extra money on the side.... not a good look.
Showboat again at elite level if you want to impress me. Too many hoppity boppity flash fools at British level these days.
Even the MOST Unorthodox of Fighter's Dialed it Down to Some Degree, EVENTUALLY...Whittaker will Follow Suit &/Or Be on the Receiving End of a Highlight Reel KO Loss... REED
Right Now, Everything About Fighting is FUN For Whittaker...Inevitably, there Comes a Time When Shit AIN'T as Fun Though...In the Words of the Bitter, Jaded Prick - Larry Merchant "There Ain't a Horse That Can't Be RODE, Nor a Jockey That Can't Be THROWED"... REED
He got hit flush more than a few times by a guy with a losing record and no real power. I'd lean towards KO waiting to happen and with the disrespectful showboating, he's asking for it.
Got exposed in the amateurs and got found out last night. As soon as he fought someone with a pulse, he struggled and looked ordinary. Quit job it does seem like. Whittaker needs to show his face as he's gone into hiding since. Cameron deserves a rematch.
As Whittaker was getting fraud checked, for some reason I just automatically remembered the time when Hamed fought Kelley, Merchant gave his customary one liner before the first bell - "Inquiring minds want to know.. Is Hamed a Prince, or a frog?"
Said it for a while now, Ben Whittaker would be lucky to be another Josh Kelly. Galal Yafai was the Olympian who deserved the attention, not Clarke or Whittaker.
Mmm, not that I have a horse in this race, but you said he was certainly better than Josh Kelly in this specific thread
Both Whittaker and Kelly got found out in the amateurs. That hippity-hoppity style only works against bums.
Oh shit, so I did Nah, I bought into the hype. I thought he could've been another good light heavy, plus he's from Britain and I watched him in the Olympics, but he's definitely not as good as Yafai. I'd be surprised if he actually had a career as impressive as Kelly's now.
Im pretty sure that’s proof that he faked his injury if he was able to walk up to someone and smash their phone.
I'll give him a pass for this one, as he seems to have calmed down and apologized quickly (though i guess that getting your passport confiscated makes you chilldown in a hurry).
