Not shit at all. I was attending a formal discussion/semi debate between the two years ago in AC after it looked like Oscars then new formed promotion company would reign on their parade..so it was Don King who said "an ex con vs. a Harvard lawyer"..point being they both did good..not shit at all..maybe in wrong thread..that's all..GS

    Both of them are scum-fucks.

Don is probably better at his job, namely being a scum-fuck.

Don's body of work with Ali/Foreman, Tyson and JC Chavez is pretty impressive.

Fuck them both in the ass with a 14" glass dildo, though. :nono:

Historically, King probably has the edge, but his prime fizzled out a long time ago.

Arum has done the much better job of adjusting to the times (namely hiring the right staff) which allows him to run shit the way he does today.

Anyway, the answer to this is King.

Even if he's no longer relevant in the sport, the impact he had in his time is something Arum can never touch.

Biggest night of kings life, promotion wise, was probably the night Chavez "beat"Taylor. I think he had 90% of the fighters on that card.

    Tough-guy Jews.

If King told me to GTFO I would.

    Arum thinks he's Carmine Galante.

Don King…..though he hasn’t been relevant since Felix Trinidad/2001…even then he was a shell of himself. For 20-30 years u can’t say boxing and not think/mention Don King.

To this DAY! People still ask me if Don King is around promoting fights…

No need to read the "Early life and Education" part of his Wikipedia page. You already know.

I have never been involved with Don King or any of his promotions, I came along much later. I have been around Top Rank quite a bit. These are my opinions based on that.
Top Rank is basically run by a lot of old school boxing guys, Arum has been a figurehead for a long time now. If you have a fighter that you need to bring along and build, Top Rank is the place to go. They will work with you in putting together the fights that your guy needs to grow as a fighter; if you or your fighter is a dick to people and a disrespectful clown, they will get him beat. You can fight every 60-90 days with TR and that is big when you are bringing a guy up.
They get a bad rap for 'underpaying' fighters. The reality is that they are a for profit enterprise and know what most fights are worth- most fighters have a very non realistic version of what they are worth. Kind of like the WNBA. You have to put asses in seats to make money. A lot of times- just about all the time- fighters think that they are the only ones involved in the business that are trying to make money. They forget that everybody else has bills to pay.
With TR, your contract will specify how many fights per year they will get you. In the developmental stage, if you fight those fights, you can fight outside your contract. If you start turning down fights your status will get shaky. I have been in situations where we needed more time between fights to teach the fighter but he was contracted four for that year and the fighter needed the money.
A thing that was kind of an issue with TR and some fighters, in my experience, is the signing bonus. There is kind of an expectation that you will use that to invest in your progress- this might be different for really high profile fighters. If you spend your bonus on an F150, your girl, and tacos then ask them 120 days later for money to go to Houston to work with Ronnie Shields, then only show up long enough to spar 6 rounds and disrespect Ronnie Shields, you are going to have a bumpy ride with TR.
