Nah, 8-4 is what I saw. An utterly pointless match will have a rematch. It was entertaining in sub world class way, but Eubanks has already shown he's short of world class, and I've never rated Benn...at welterweight.
Benn isn't upset. So perhaps Eubank did shade it. But yes it was subpar stuff. Entertainment but of no pugilistic significance.
Fun absolutely. Just a bit too sloppy. I think it's a pity that we're milking the past....dredging it.....to get something people will show up to.
I get the criticism, for boxing hardcores like us. My missus is a casual for the most part, but was totally engrossed in the build up and back story, and she absolutely loved the fight, was on the edge of her seat throughout. She'll be talking about that fight for ages, as will other people who aren't big boxing fans, it's good for the sport I think. Kinda glad the main event was so fun, as the undercard was poor, could have turned a lot of people off if the big one was a dud too.
I felt it took eubanks a few round, but once he figured out benn, he was outclassing him. Then, eubanks stamina went down hill and that jab wasn't working as well. So he decided to slug with the hopes of leaning on his opponent more. But eubanks held his own and had benn hurt a few times.
Benn is so small. Skinny legs, neck. No business at 160. Smallest 160 of are times. Eubank half dead at the weight. But too small himself for the full 168.
Finally got around to watch this. As someone that’s been dismissive of this fight since they first announced it I must say I’m pleasantly surprised how good it actually turned out. Eubank Jr won it clearly but Benn definitely fought his heart out all the way through. They both deserve praise for putting on a tremendous show that made their fathers proud. Wouldn’t mind seeing them run it back again.
I'm genuinely surprised how many people had it a clear Eubank victory. I thought Benn won quite a few rounds on workrate alone. Personally, for me it was a draw or a 1-2 point fight in either direction.
Exactly I really felt there was an air of desperation about Eubank in the last two rounds. Fighting like he believed it had slipped away.
I agree. I just wish the people who televised the fight stopped repeating the mantra about how we'd all witnessed something special and uplifting. Entertaining scrap. Good fight.
