What gives here? Any chance for Canelo to win or be competitive?

Sloppy Joe by decision. Bad style matchup for Canelo.

    Close but clear for calzaghe

Edit: Upon further reflection, I'd pick Canelo. He's a terrific ocunterpuncher and Calzaghe just has too many holes

Best case for Canelo imo,’is that he loses via couple points on the cards but overall Joe is simply too busy for him.

Calzaghe would win at least 8 rounds, imo.

Calzaghe was open as fuck, and canelo is a great counter puncher. Hed tag him hard and often. Old ass Hopkins probably should have gotten the nod fighting this way . A prime canelo could improve on that

Nah, I can't go that far. Canelo definitely goes the distance. He just doesn't win many rounds.

I would pick Calzhage tho, I think he'd outwork Canelo, and he has massive advantages in stamina and footwork. I think he'd just keep on turning Canelo and keep on slapping him. Canelo would land the cleaner, more eye catching shots but I think Calzhage would just steal too many rounds.

I can see that. Otoh I can see Calzaghe being meat on a platter for Alvarez' Babe Ruth counters. You cite a big stamina advantage but, set against that, Canelo comes on as fights go as much as Calzaghe does so who knows. As a bottom line Alvarez would be the best guy Calzaghe ever fought imo, including Popkins, so it's possible the early struggles he had against more skillful guys just continue through the rounds. Maybe he just keeps shipping hard counters against somebody who doesn't tire or wilt. I'd pay to see that :Jest:
