He had a pretty good 4 year run. Starting from when he burst onto the scene by destroying Ohara Davies, and culminating with the Ramirez win. Certainly won't go down as a junior welterweight great, but a good fighter. From a managerial standpoint, I would steer him to 147 against a fringe guy. TBH, I think he loses to both Catt and Regis in rematches. Well, I ALWAYS thought he would lose a Regis rematch.
He could fight the winner of Rolly-Ryan and he’d be the favorite in that fight I think. A Ramirez rematch is winnable. Broner has made a come back so Josh could fight him in a confidence builder. At 147, maybe he could lure Keith Thurman into a fight. But he's cannon fodder for Crawford, Spence, Boots, Ortiz, and even Stanionis.
Josh Taylor returns in May. Against some guy named Ekow Essuman. Can Taylor make another career run? Or is he just a stepping stone level guy now?
Not even the best 140lb guy in the UK. Seems to have "substance" issues but worst of all he's in love with himself and isn't very bright. Don't see any future for him.
I doubt he's gonna be at 140 any longer. This fight is almost certainly at 147. Substance problems for sure though. He's supposedly an alchy and a big party guy. Taylor & Spence, both ruined by the bottle.
He cannot make 140. But my point is he wasn't even the best guy there when he could. Cattrall beat him 2 out of 2 and all Taylor could do sound like a common yob.
You know the sad thing about Taylor? Just like Michael Conlon tonight, he'll come back and get matched safely and they'll start talking shit again about "big fights" in his future. Neither man should be let near a big fight. They're both going to get hurt. Conlon fought a glorified journeyman tonight, went 8 rounds. A former title-contender should never be fighting below 10 rounders .
Ekow Essuman is damn fun to watch and was in 2 FOTY contenders last year. If anything I’m pretty stoked to see Josh Taylor against Essuman. Both have the right style to make this a great fight.
This fight will give us an idea of how past it Josh Taylor is now. Could potentially turn into a two way slugfest but I favor Taylor to win it. If he somehow loses then I think it’s safe to say that he’s finished.
He's fighting Ekow Essuman in like a few hours Itauma is ready for Usyk DAZN Boxing (@DAZNBoxing): "MOSES ITAUMA IS A BAD MAN!!! #TaylorEssuman | Live NOW on DAZN" | XCancel
Taylor is no longer the same. Good start but quickly faded after the 4th round. Essuman gave a good performance. I think Taylor should hang them up before he gets hurt.
That'll be it for Josh. Fourth loss in a row (we all know he lost the first Catt fight), and this time he loses to a domestic level chap. Time to hang em up. He had a decent run. His prime probably could have lasted a bit longer if he didn't booze and party so much between fights. But also, his talent/skill level became very overrated. Comical that people once thought Taylor was a threat to Bud.
